Jay Peak told the Caledonian Record this weekend that they have so far they've had more than 300,000 skier days this season, which is 20 percent more than the previous record, and that they will break ground on a new hotel wing in May, which is expected to cost $17.5 million. They are getting permits for the remainder of the project. In total, $90 million will be invested, which Stenger said "is in the bank."

The article.

300K skier visits is impressive considering Jay's location. I bet the favorable exchange rate played a big part in that total. Coastal Maine Canadian tourism business was up 20% last year.

I am new to responding but it seems like this statement is as much of an exaggeration as their snow reports? Sure Jay gets more snow on average but 100 inches more than Sugarbush and MRG? No way!

Regarding increased skier visits, I have two words: Triple Major. College crowd was much larger than the previous year. Most noticeable was the sizable increase in snowboarders which I noticed on college age student's feet. Not saying that as a slam against snowboarders (why do I feel the need to clarify that?) but rather just saying that is one of the things that made me take notice. WHY on Earth a ski area would brag about skier visit records is beyond me. Bragging about having a crowded mountain? Yea, send out that press release.

WAY. Without a doubt that much more than Bush and MRG during an average season. North of I-89 is as much of a different ball game as is NH and ME from central VT. Their snow reports were much more realistic and honest than previous years, IMO.

Yes. SB/MRG average about 250" and Jay averages about 350". Stowe is somewhere in between. This year Jay has had about 400" while SB/MRG are around 288".
