Valhalla to Canyonland would be pretty challenging without traversing uphill and doing a little side slipping. The only way to do that would be to get up and over onto Upper Milk Run and duck in from there. I can't see it being done unless your do a little side stepping if you stay far skier's left in Valhalla. Kinda pointless, there are far better tree options from Valhalla besides the lower portion of Canyonland (and while I am biased against Canyonland as the worst glad I Jay, even if you think it is the best, there are better tree options available from Valhalla exit regardless).

Nah... Most over rated glade is beaver pond... But still fun once in a while! ;)

Beaver Pond is absolutely the most overrated glade, 100% agree. But I said Canyonland is the worst at Jay, not the most overrated. :)

Alright so thanks for all of the advice guys. Tomorrow, I will get a few quick warm up runs on the flyer (Everglade, beaver pond) and then maybe a few runs on the tram before it gets too crowded...I'm thinking a face chutes and Valhalla and maybe a green beret if its still not crowded.

If the tram gets too crowded then I might do a Bonny or jet run mid afternoon or stay on the flyer.

Any other trails I absolutely MUST hit? Is staircase really that different than Everglade where it'd be worth doing a run on each? How about random glades like Kitz woods or north glade...worth going out of my way to hit?

Tram has been busy all week and I expect today to be very busy even at the oprning. Staircase is very similar to Everglade. Slightly steeper at the top, a bit more rocky. The top of each run ain't really a glade in my book but narrow chutes that feed into a proper glade. I always ski Staircase at least once, but I'd rather get the extra vertical of Everglade instead of cruising down Alligator Alley. The face has not received that much snow compared to other years. The top of face chutes is marginal and not worth it.

I don't understand Riverc0il distaste of Canyonland. Beaver has so many variations - steep and narrow, open and mellow, drops, that it's hard to call it 'so overrated'. You can ski there all day and never hit the same line twice. It is short and the return to the Flyer sucks however. After you've hit Vertigo, keep left in the glade and make sure you catch Buck woods from the Top. Keep left and look for short dropoffs. Have a good day !

Yeah, because of so many entrances to Canyonland IMO, there's usually fresh pow available no matter what day for a couple turns.
I also enjoy Beaver Pond Glade, but I wouldn't call it great. It gets extremely heavy traffic IMO.

IMO not a big fan of Kitz Woods. They are really steep, tight, and short. You can do Hell's Woods at the bottom, which has infinite amount of lines because it's so wide. But, it is very short like Kitz Woods.

And North Glade is sweet, there's tons of snow to be had when it widens out at the bottom. Another place for great snow at the bottom, assuming no elevation factors.

So this weekend bookends Quebec and Ontario's school break. Lesson learned. More Canadiens than you can shake a stick at. Amazing day weather wise though. Glades awesome as usual.

Regarding Canyonland, I have two major issues. The first is that it receives an extraordinary amount of traffic. I think that is because it is the closest non-chute style glade to the Bonnie unload area. And also because of its namesake, the gully that Canyonland utilizes really is a canyon and it breaks up the flow of the glade. Coming in off Northway can be fun when base depths are high enough, but you don't get much vert before you are in the glade proper. I've never had a really good run in there, just my experience.

Beaver is overrated because so many people say it is the best glade at Jay. I don't think it is, not even close. It gets a crap ton of traffic and while there are a lot of lines, you really need to fight the glade to stay out of the main routes that the terrain tries to funnel you into. There are so interesting ledgy areas in the upper part, towards Beyond, but I find that the further out you go, the better lines you get but they are also shorter. The entire glade is damn short enough as it is, always feels like it starts to end just when it is getting good. And of course the run out. I'll go OB all day off Timbuktu and that is a lot of traversing for only a moderate length glade. But the length of a Beaver Pond run is absolutely obscene for the limited amount of great glade skiing you get for your efforts. All my opinion, I'm not going to say any one else is wrong, but I just don't understand why Beaver is so beloved.

Update on the day: so I did a TON of glades today...got a lotta runs in. I skied Valhalla, Timbuktu, Everglade, staircase, beaver/Andre, face chutes, deliverance, canyonland, vertigo, Kitz woods, Hells woods, and more! The conditions were alright...a bit rocky in some spots and the snow was wet and sometimes tough to ski but it was a pretty solid day nonetheless. My favorite trail was probably Valhalla or Timbuktu....most of the glades were pretty similar. I will try tucks tomorrow and maybe ski the dip and walk back...do you guys think it is worth skiing the dip in (slight spring conditions) and how long would the walk back be? (If I can't hitch a ride back from some other guys skiing the dip).

Getting some GoPro footage?

Got some footage for today, however, battery ran out today and now my computer won't charge the gopro for some reason so I may not be able to get any footage for tomorrow.

It was a great week-end indeed. Temperatures got below zero overnight which limited the loss of snow. However the next 2 days are going to be very hard on the snow pack with temperatures well above freezing overnight. Then it gets real cold and that's gonna seriously screw up conditions until we get snow again.

Quick random Jay question - I was there last week, and in 2 places (I want to say Canyonland and Andre's/Beaver, tough it's foggy), I saw a spot with 2 trees marked with orange rings. Not like tags or ribbons marking them for maintenance, but I think painted on or something. Any idea what these are all about? Work of locals for landmarks, or for patrol navigation, or to mark where what's considered one glade transitions to another? And they weren't along the boundary, fairly sure of that.

Haven't seen that, although I try to focus in the space between the trees... However, in Quebec, trees to be harvested (or tended to) are marked at eye level with an orange ring. Blue is sometimes used for trees to be kept, and red is used to mark boundaries. I would venture that these are likely dead trees to be cut.
