There is cheapish lodging to be found in Stowe, even during the holiday week. I can't ever recall Stowe not having everything open but Goat, Starr, Lookout, Bypass, Hackets, On Map Glades and Chin Clip on Mansfield during Christmas week. Most of Spruce is always open too except perhaps Smugglers and Whirlaway.

Stowe offers off hill entertainment that Jay does not if there's fowl weather.

CRAP SHOT. Just like any other resort. Book the area you want to go to the most and let the chips fall where they may. Don't go in with expectations if you are booking in advanced.

Thats all you can do. Many times when I plan on going up north for a weekend I try not to make reservations till at least the Thursday before. If you don't mind a little morning driving, staying somewhere centerally opens up a lot of options.

So weve managed to find equal prices for trips to whiteface and jay peak this December break. We plan on going for 4 days over the new years time frame. Were torn between whitefaces vertical and long runs versus Jays snow.
Does Jay normally have good snowfall by this time of the year? Would it be wishful thinking to expect some pow? Would the most the runs be open? Would most the glades be skiable by this time?
Hows the crowds at Jay this time of the year? Are the crowds at the tram a disaster?
Any information that could give a clearer idea about what Jay will be like at this time of the year is appreciated!

Cheers!

If you are playing the odds then I would stick with Jay. I used to go there for New Years and got powder the three years I went. I also got hit with a thatw freeze as well.

I live in LP now. Over the past couple of years we have had good condition early December and have gotten our ass busted by the rain. I think Jay has had the same problem . They work very hard at whiteface to have the upper mountain open for the holidays. That does not mean it happens though.

If you are purely looking for the best conditions I would go to Jay.
