Resort: Jiminy Peak
Date Skied 04/21/2007 – 12pm to 3:45pm
Conditions: Sun & 70 degrees, heavy wet spring snow
Trip Report: I had to get out one more time this season. Nobody wanted to go with me today. I have been using my Salomon 1080’s skis that officially became rock skis from three Saturdays ago at Mount Snow. Today they ran over everything, from corn snow, grass, saplings, rocks, gravel and dirt. Since they are rock skis I really enjoyed myself as I was not worried if I damaged them any more than they already are after my run in with a small boulder at Mount Snow last Saturday.
Back to the skiing. As I was arriving several people were heading out and telling me how hot it was out there and how heavy the snow was. In order to get to the summit, you needed to take the novice triple lift and ski to the left to get the Q1 quad. Once up there were several ways to go. If you skied to the left, there was the Left Bank trail that brought you to Wild Turkey and Cutter. If you got off the lift and went to the right, you had Whirlway and you could go cross country a bit to West Way. This was the area that had the thinnest coverage. I skied North Glade and cut back under the 6pack lift to the Exhibition trail back to the Q1. The first time I took North Glade I ended up on a trail called 360 and went to the base and had to take the triple back up to the Q1 Quad. North Glade had plenty of snow, it was just tiring and to hot to get over there.
My Trail pick today would be Whirlaway to Exhibition to the Q1 Quad. It was thin at top, but once you got down about 30 feet it was good. Did I mention it was not crowded today?
I took some pictures today. I kind of forgot where they were from, so forgive me if the trail names are not right:
Riding the triple:
My first pair of skis after boredom with snow blades, now my official rock skis:
