Date Skied: 3/7//04 - 9am to 3pm - Jeep Owner’s Appreciation Day

Resort: Jiminy Peak

Conditions: Sunny and warm, packed snow, loose snow, ice, slush (typical spring conditions)

Trip Report:

According to the Snow Country spokesperson there was 315 Jeeps today. We were on the 6 pack lift at 9am. First run was The Left Bank trail. The rain & warmth from the previous days took it’s toll on some trails. Conditions varied from packed snow, ice,, corn snow and slush. We were trying to find the best trails on the mountain and headed to the Widow’s Quad. Out to Sea was gone. We did Noreaster. Bare spots and ice with granular snow.

The best trails we found today were Whirlaway, Whiteteail and Jericho. The 6 pack had about a 20 group lines each time but that seemed to disappear around 11:00am. From then on there were groups of about 5 to 10 people. The three trails mentioned were the steep trails at Jiminy. The Upper parts of those trails were scratchy and the lower parts turned soft.

The worst part was the lower trail section back to the 6 pack. As the day got sunnier and warmer the ski traffic had caused two "lanes" with mounds of slushy snow in the middle and on the edges to form.

We did go over to the West Way area. Spring like conditions prevailed on the novice and intermediate trails. North Glade was the best pick as anything with a pitch had packed snow conditions.

We skied until 3pm. Overall a great day, lots of sun still great coverage on the trails and not to crowded.
One of the highlights was watching Jeeps being towed out by other Jeeps. The frozen parking lots thawed out and made for some major mud and cars getting stuck. We watched a Wrangler (I think it was 2WD) being pulled out by a mid 90’s Grand Cherokee with a lift kit and some serious all terrain tires. The guy who owned the GC was helping other Jeep owners who had gotten stuck in the mud.
