The fire was set outside the building in an alley. Whether the building caught on fire on purpose or by accident, it's still arson. Who knows what their motivation was.....

Reguardles whether they intentionally or accidently set the building on fire,I don't understand the "they were unlucky" comment.Clearly they were irresponsible and not unlucky.

So you are saying you are a saint and never done anything irresponsible?

I dont believe that for a second, and as myself and others have pointed out, when Ive done something irresponsible I've gotten "lucky" that the worst case scenario did not unfold. Is this that hard to comprehend?

You guys seriously sound like out of touch old guys.

Sorry - reckless arson....but these kids were charged with arson, so I'm pretty sure there is some solid evidence.

Depends on which web site you look up the definition apparently:

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/arson
: the willful or malicious burning of property (as a building) especially with criminal or fraudulent intent

If you're lighting a fire, it doesn't matter where it is. It is willful. It is done on or with a purpose. A spark from an electrical wire is an accident. Grease from a frying pan lighting something up is an accident. It doesn't say it HAS to be done with criminal or fraudulent intent.

At least Scotty was smart enough to do it in a field. And I'm sure he will tell you he did it willfully.

Yeah cops have never taken people in on bogus charges before, never.

I dont see why you are hell bent on seeing an 11 year old kid being proven to be an arsonist, but keep on keepin on I suppose.

Poor kids.

They didn't mean to burn the place down.

We've all done that, right.

It's just part of growing up.

When is someone going to be held accountable for their actions?

Guess that's the psychology of the world today?

Well to be fair the fires I lit would only have caused a forest fire unless it spread to a nearby building :spin:

1+....ROTFL...
They ARE VICTIMS!!! Poor little Einsteins....simply an experiment gone bad...I'm crying in my sleep nights over this....:sadwalk:. ...AND we're going to throw some of America's Best & Brightest IN JAIL!!! OMG..

The PARENTS should be MADE to pick up 100% of the damage tab. No ANDs, BUTs...no ORs....100% or THEY serve time if there were no guilty bystanders that lended a helping hand by tossing in some dynamite or a few rounds from their grenade launcher from the pop-up top of the new Pathfinder...etc.....

Not hellbent on anything. I told you what the charges were and you doubted it was arson. Then why were they charged with arson? Did the paper report it wrong? Did the police charge them with the wrong thing? Should it have been one count of being unlucky?

You are assuming they are guilty of arson, which I find highly improbably for kids that age.

I got my hands on matches and started a couple bonfires as a middle schooler. I distinctly remember lighting up some leaf piles in the front yard. I didnt burn anything down but I definitely could have.

Just sayin.

How old does someone need to be to be an arsonist?

Maybe it was the kids first time ever seeing matches and didn't know what they do.
