Will that snow actually stay till winter or are they just doing that for publicity?

Hard to say but they will probably be open for skiing in 2-3 weeks. I don't think LL opens early fro publicity, they actually draw a pretty good crowd the frist few weeks.

That snow will form the initial base for the winter. It's just a beginner wrap-around trail a little shorter in length and challenge than what Sunday River opens on. Basically manmade porcelain after a couple of days of people skiing on it.

Here's a shot near the top of the lift from October 21, 2004. The fresh snow in this shot had a rope across it. They were in the process of getting some slightly more challenging terrain going but hadn't gotten very far down the hill. Loveland does not have New England-style snowmaking capacity. At one of the larger New England areas, they could get that little beginner run open in 24 hours. At Loveland, it takes a couple of weeks as they blow a section and then move the guns.
