Not really a good one IMHO.

Was 85% surfing, 10% skateboarding, and 5% urban mountain biking.

Whiskey tango foxtrot.

Where was all the real mountain biking? What about some other outdoor New England exploits... sailing, water skiing, kiteboarding.... kiting. Parasailing.

Seemed kinda limited. Good photography, but otherwise, not breaking any new ground here.

I tend to like the magazine, though not every article interests me. I haven't read through the latest issue yet, but it does seem to be geared towards sports that I'm not to interested in. Sometimes its cool to read about other stuff though...

The pictures are generally pretty, but yeah, not a huge amount of interest. When I think "Northeast" I don't think "surfing", generally.

Good observation there...every edition has something about surfing in it. Now there are some cool places to do it I'm sure, but that water must be cold...

Nothing but ads for the first 26 pages, nice pics, not much interest to me, does seem to be all over the place. Oh, and what's with the pics of Europe, this is NE, right? Mag seems more like a resume for editor/photographer than anything else.

Wet suits and all that. It isn't even that they have stuff about surfing... it's that like this WHOLE past issue was almost exclusively surfing. With the obscure urban-stunt-mountain biking thrown in.

There's just so many and so many more popular outdoor summer north east activites... I wouldn't mind at all reading about some that I don't participate in if they were at least unique and diverse. I don't have any interest in a Surf New England magazine.

I am a bit :-? about it actually...the winter edition did not have much about skiing in it and I got mine in like March or April. Was hoping for a bit more local vibe. I concur with AZ's thoughts...some really nice pics, some really nice paper, but nothing substantive.

I have not even opened the latest N'East yet since I have been so disappointed with the product. I got on board with the free AZ subscription which was a really cool offer, but the magazine has had almost no ski content. Their biggest amount of ski content to date was not even ski content from the Northeast! Lame. It is a very nice looking magazine but it focuses mostly on activities I could care less about and has almost no good ski content.

You mirrored my sentiments exactly!!
When I started first seeing N'East around I was like "cool, a magazine dedicated to NE sports". It sort of seemed that way at first with some cool pictures of skiing, boarding, ice climbing, surfing...

But then over the winter I started realizing that, just like you mentioned, the magazine is over 70% surfing!! When the H*** did surfing become a top sport in the NE??? How about some skiing, snowboarding, ice climbing in the winter? Why do I have to read/see a whole issue(s) of guys in 5mm neoprene surfing in Maine in the middle of February?

Anyway, I was highly disappointed since the magazine just seemed to keep following that trend of being a mostly surfing magazine - with the title N'East, I guess it's deceiving.

I get the magazine for free, so now I quickly glance over it for any good pictures (and even then, some pictures are printed extremely grainy) and don't bother taking it anymore

What about some other outdoor New England exploits... sailing, water skiing, kiteboarding.... kiting. Parasailing.
You forgot Scuba diving... really popular in the LI Sound

These make great coffee table fodder. I really like this magazine, it's pretty unique.

Many of my friends do not ski and wouldn't understand the attraction of skiing in 2+ feet of powder, but this magazine has alot of different sports and not too many words. Alot of things to distract you and little to read or comprehend. But the pics make a good jumping off point for conversation.

I think it caters well to most Americans in the year 2007.

Ok, so looking at the recent issue they have improved their paper and printing. Who knows, maybe I'll give it another shot...

I haven't read the new one yet, but hopefully they've improved their editing, too. You'd think that with only 4 words of copy, they'd be able to spell most of the words right.

There was a promotional thread a while back. A bunch of members have free life time subscriptions. I feel bad for criticizing because they were very generous, but it is what it is.

Actually, it was a free year subscription, but this goes back almost 2 years so maybe it is lifetime?

One year feels like a life time these days.

I seem to remember it being life time when I signed up. Not the first time my memory has failed me though.
