Drove up early Wed. morning for a few days of skiing. Wed. skiing was not to good. They had some rain Tues & when the temps dropped overnight everything froze solid. Only a few lifts & trails open in the AM although they did get more open during the day. Anything that didn't get hit with a groomer was closed & for good reason.
Thurs. what a difference a day makes. They must of had the groomers out in full force Wed. night because the mountain was in much better condition. Trails that had been closed were re-opened & they were blowing snow in many different areas. Upper Bear Claw into lower Wildfire had the guns on all day & skiing on them was excellent & believe it or not not crowded. They were blowing in the Stash also but it wasn't open yet. The guns were going on Panic Button & Needles Eye top to bottom also & except for some scratchyness on the top of Panic Button the rest of the trail was excellent. They had the guns going on mid & lower Superstar but the lower part was closed. Everything else was well groomed skiing but was fast with some patches of ice here & there because of the rain Tues. but overall pretty good. There were guns going elsewhere too.
Friday we had a few inches of new snow overnight which made the conditions even better. If you got out early you were rewarded with a few runs breaking fresh tracks. They moved the guns off of Bear Claw over to Outer Limits where they were blowing the top 1/2 of the trail & still had the guns going on lower Wildfire & the Stash, guns still going on mid to lower Superstar also which was open & skied magnificently. Needles was again excellent with the guns turned off & the fresh snow. Fresh packed powder skiing all over the mountain but there were areas where there was still ice underneath but overall a good day. Run of the day was Conclusion which had guns going on it for over a week except for the warm up on Tues. They shut the guns off Fri. & the trail was in excellent condition with no one skiing it except for myself it seemed. Not the greatest week but well worth the trip.
