Trip Report:
Awesome day at big K today. Unfortunately, I got a late start from home at 7 AM, so as soon as I made the right onto 100, the snow started hammering down and the truck in front of me insisted on going 25 MPH the entire way to West Bridgewater. Even with that, I made decent time and arrived at 10:15. Crowds were prominent today, but the only lines were ~2 minutes on K1 and the Poma, so not too bad. Trails were comfortable except occasional times on Great Northern and Caper. Defintely some soul back in the place, good to see.
Parked at Rams Head because there weren't many cars there and I didn't want to risk walking 10 miles from Bay 5 or Vale. Boarded the quad around 10:30 and immediately got out of Rams Head via Caper. Lots of people on this trail as it was 1 of only 2 open on Rams Head so far (still, better than last year's 0 trails).
Decided to get right into the natural stuff, so I took Slowdon Quad to Vagabond. Some nice, although thin snow on the trail. It's a fun run, but IMO too short (of course it was probably a lot better in the old Rams Head days) compared to some other runs.
Next run was down a SICK Northstar. Crazy good snow on this trail for Thanksgiving and great bump lines in some places to boot. Coverage held up very good all day. Some weeds poking through but few rocks. I'll stamp it with co-trail of the day.
I wanted to check out the rest of the mountain, so I headed down Killink from the quad and up the Glades triple. Hit Ridge Run which had some great natural and decent bumps. Took the ladies tee into lower East Fall which was really scraped in the middle, but good powder on the sides.
On the ride up the Canyon Quad, I was pleasently surprised to see Royal Flush open. So, at the top, BEELINE. Well, I decided to check out Powerline first which was beat up and ugly. Royal Flush was also beat up and ugly, but still AMAZING to have a run like this in November. Hitting it repeatedly was worth scraping bases on rocks. This is the other co-trail of the day for me.
Took the K1 to the top and hit Downdraft Headwall to Launch Pad. Hung a left onto Superstar which was nice down the left side. Lower was closed so I hit Lower Skyelark which was pretty nice... a bit scraped but not bad.
I spent the next half hour on Skye hitting everything open. Bittersweet was in a little better shape than Skyelark, but also a bit more crowded. Skye Hawk had some decent snow but was starting to hit rock bottom too. I'm gonna miss the Bittersweet headwall.
Stopped in KBL at 1 for lunch and to watch the Bruins for a few minutes. After a great burger, I headed back to the top for another run down Royal Flush. Spent the rest of the day alternating between that, Northstar, and a Great Bear thrown in there which was also fun, but not quite as nice as Northstar. Hit Mouse Trap real quick which was nice too. Very tired after spending 2 hours straight on Northstar and Flush.
Awesome day at Killington... best November day ever for me. I'll be taking a few days off, then I'll be at Wachusett post-rainstorm on Tuesday. I'll be back to either Mt. Snow, Okemo, or Killington sometime in the next few weeks. I'd like to switch these up sometime but I just can't get away from Big K right now... place is rocking.
