just finished a 6-day stint at the big k. there are 2 phases to the trip - before & after the snow. from monday afternoon through friday the place was empty. saturday was the biggest crowd of the year.
before the snow: monday they had blown upper ovation overnight and were laying out some nice velvety gunpow on lower o during the day. many laps. clearly rotd.
tuesday morning was spent mostly lapping double dipper which had been blown overnight. the dipper woods had some nice blowback as well.
after the snow: started snowing lightly as we went to lunch. by the time we came out snowing heavily. by end of day i'd guess 3-5" and 6-8" total by wednesday morning. at 5" thought the mtn under reported. from that point on it was trees, trees, trees ...
picked up another 2-3" refresh thurs night. mtn reported an inch. whatever it was, it felt like 2ft after the recent snow drought. snowden woods skied great all week. trax down throne. supe woods. growler. off map stuff like light & black hole. even squeeze play was a hoot.
like brownsville, didn't really ski a lot of bumps preferring to ski pow but in the course of the week these are what we hit:
outer limits-totally bumped. got a topcoat friday night.
devil's fiddle-lower totally bumped though a bit slick in between. upper more spaced.
wildfire-upper nice bump line skier's left. lower developed bumps saturday.
thimble-good bumps.
upper needles-short bump section.
stichline-bumps top-to-bottom. lots of thin sections.
vertigo-nice course with jumps on the very lower section. upper/middle starting to bump. a bit slick.
superstar-nice lines on lower skiers left & right.
skye hawk-monster bumps.
ovation-upper totally bumped. didn't think the lines were real good. maybe they got skied in more saturday. lower had bumps both sides but was groomed down the middle.
lower skyelark-i'm sure they've groomed it now. gs bumps. slick in between.
breakaway-as of saturday needed to get skied in more. wind slabby snow.
downdraft-headwall very gnarly.
dipper woods-upper next to guns has good bumpline.
escapade-starting to bump.
ridge run-ditto
northstar-ditto
vagabond-ditto
mts, swirl, mouse trap-excellent seeded bump courses.
