I'll try to keep this short hand, I'm writing this on my phone.

I went up to Killington 2/21 with some friends (18 of us to be exact) who rented a cabin. It was quite the party. Fighting the hangover at 7:00am was tough, but the skiing was damn good!

We woke up Friday to blue skies, comfortable temperatures and zilch wind. We had tried to get group rate tickets but it was too hard getting everyone to the ticket window at the same time. I ended up buying a ticket in the parking lot for $60. Pretty damn cheap for Kmart on a holiday I thought.

We spent most of the day on the Bear Mountain side but explored the other peaks. Most lifts only had a 30 second or so wait. The main gondola was even down to 2 minutes.

The snow was in great shape. Little to no ice on most trails. I didn't get into that many glades, the ones I did had good coverage but were mostly tracked out. The steeps skied great until the end of the day when they started to get scraped off. Took my last run down the bumpy side of Superstar and called it a day.

I found this Killington excursion to be way more enjoyable than my previous trips there. The crowds were way thinner and the place was just more laid back without the weekender congestion.

Round 2:

Saturday got off to a slower start. Many of us decided to sleep instead of ski, so we were split into smaller groups. We got to Killington at 9:20 or so to find no parking whatsoever. We called out friends on the mountain and got a snow report. The trails were congested and the lift lines looked pretty long. We decided to hit Pico instead. Neither of us had been there and my uncle raves about the place. We got there and the lot was full but the trails and lifts were empty.

I'm not familiar with this place yet, but we pretty much skied glades off and below the summit and base lifts. The lift all the way skiers right had some great terrain. There was plenty of snow from the previous 8" a few days back. However there was some glare ice on the steeper trails. We didn't stay on cut trails too much. The snow in the woods was plentiful. Fresh tracks on almost every run. Some of the tree runs at this place are pretty tight and quite challenging. Even had a few 5-6' drops.

It snowed the whole time we were there. They probably got 3" from 12-4. Went from a 'may not ski day' to a mini powder day. I really liked this place, I am most definitely going back.

I didn't get to Upper Giant Killer unfortunately, my friend I was skiing with had a bit of a scare on Ovation at Killington the day before so he didn't want to do anything that steep. We were perfectly content skiing the powder in the woods. What does that trail compare to? It's hard to tell how steep it really is from the lifts.

The Outpost chair was not running, is this common? It looks awesome over on that peak.

They seem to run the Outpost chair sporadically which is too bad....no reason it should not be open during a school vacation weekend.
It's an old slow double (like Magic) but has nice continuous classic New England terrain all left ungroomed.

UGK is not overly steep really, but the day I was there the moguls were very large which made it challenging.
A Slope is a great trail.

You would probably enjoy it. I don't think it has the variety Killington has, but it's still an awesome place. It's pretty steep up top. There are some highways but I found some spots that are sort of open areas with small clumps of trees. I just liked the feel of the place. The facilities are nice and clean, coffee was only $1.50! Sort of a Magic-esq vibe.

A Slope was one of my favorite runs. We took that into some trees that brought us right between the lifts.

Yeah I was bummed Outpost wasn't open. We tried to find a way over there but it looked like a serious bushwhack uphill.

It's actually easy to access from the top of the Golden Express Quad.....5-10 min walk/skate up a gradual hill on That a Way
I've personally never done but I know ppl talk about getting over there and having the area to themselves when Outpost is closed.

I need to get back to Pico next yr for sure.

how are you liking the Theory?

The Theory is a great ski. It really shines on days like what I had at Killington and Pico. It cuts through the crud great, can handle the deep powder, it's even a blast on groomers. In the trees they're awesome, however sometimes the 186cm length can get me in trouble. But thats just the length and has nothing to do with the design of the ski. The 20m side cut isn't the best for bumps, but I still ski and enjoy them.

The only thing it doesn't perform great in is super hard pack or boiler plate. It's sometimes hard to hook into without a flatter tail. I've heard reports that it chatters at high speeds, I haven't had a problem though. I guess the newer model had a stabilizing cable or something like that? But yeah, I'm liking it. Other than the fact they fit in many gondola racks.

Nice man, I was up at Pico Saturday too. Glad you enjoyed it!

I did hit Upper Giant Killer. It would have slayed even the mightiest of giants that day. While most of the mountain had good coverage, UGK was barren with giant chunks of ice and rock sticking through. Not a fun trip down. Poma Woods at the bottom was great though.
