Ice and power outages have prevented them from opening. I see they are now announcing on their snow report that they will not open today. That should give them plenty of time to get the mountain in shape for our arrival tomorrow! :)

Looks like Wildcat called it a day today too, mostly based on nobody being there:

"Wildcat Mountain will be closed for the remainder of the day Friday. Bobcat lift and Snowcat triple chairs did operate this morning servicing middle- to lower-mountain and beginner terrain, but business levels have been determined to close early. Re-open Saturday, December 13th at 8:30am."

Not pretty in much of the state...icing was more of a problem than forecast. Many are saying this is just as bad if not worse than the Ice Storm of '98.

Where I am we got some icing, but not too much.

Magic was none too happy about it either:

"What an interesting bout of weather we have seen the last 24 hours. The "storm" dropped 2 inches of sleet and freezing rain on our trails overnight. While it was not what we had hoped for, it will help continue to firm up our base.

Magic Mountain as well as the town of Londonderry have been without power since early this morning and according to CVPS power may not be restored for up to 72 hours. The entire state has seen severe icing, downed trees and power lines so we are among many waiting to have our power restored."

Their memories must be short, the 98 storm lasted over three days. I'm sure there are some bad areas, but this from what I've seen is a relatively minor event in comparison. I was living in Burlington at the time and the city was essentially shut down for four days and was a mess for weeks after. In plenty of areas, especially remote areas in Quebec didn't see power for several weeks.

We should feel fortunate that it wasn't that bad. The woods below 3000 feet elevation at Stowe were essentially lost for the rest of the winter. There were still skiable pockets, but literally 90% of the lower elevation lines were choked with fallen debris.

WOW--didn't realize all the icing goin on, bummer.

Here in CNY we got 5" of heavy, dense snow w/ 2 inches of fluff on top, and now the LE machine is crankin up. Anyone skiing Greek this weekend should have some good snow.

 isnt that like saying the best possible root canal experience?

HEY! Carvers are way better! And frankly most root canals nowadays SHOULD be pretty boring :)

BTW, there's about 3/4 - 1" of ice coating just about everything here at Mount Snow  Power is up on Route 100 from Wilmington upto the Mountain. Basically 90%+ of homes from Wilmington to the Mass border appeared to be out. Roads were clean and in good shape, much more problems with tree debris than ice on the roads tonight. This was a BIG ice storm though
