Nice sunny day, but temps really never got above freezing. At the summit, they made snow most of the day with the effort especially on FIS and Powerline.

The skiing was lovely and their snow report for coverage, open trails and open lifts was accurate. There was a pretty good crowd for a Weds., but running 5 lifts there was never a line. The Upper Snowdon Poma is short, but riding it always brings back memories of my younger days.

I stayed at the Mountain Sports Inn. If you're looking for an inexpensive and clean place, I don't think you'll find a better deal. Their weekday price is $69 and returning guests get a 10% discount. It also includes a continental breakfast in the morning. The owner is a serious skier, and his pricing obviously reflects that he can relate to the needs of budget conscious skiers.

When I got up, it was raining and I suspect that if I hadn't stayed over, I probably wouldn't have made the drive. By 9AM, the rain was down to a light drizzle. By the time the gondola reached the summit, even the drizzle shut off. There was a light breeze and low humidity which dried out the snow surface, but it was warm enough that any of the icy patches of the previous day were totally edgeable. By noon, there were even flashes of sunshine. They opened Powerline (maybe FIS also). Powerline was a lot of fun with nice texture.

In summary, it was 2 great days. Kudos to Killington for making this happen with 4" of natural snow season-to-date.

Nice report Joshua! Looking forward to hitting the glades at the Crotch with you if any snow fills them in. Hiked to the summit this evening to catch the sunset and the man made whales continue to shrink, so sad.

A lot of snow has disappeared since I was there on Thurs., Dec. 10. Powerline and the Superstar Headwall to Skye Hawk are the only runs that were open on the 10th that were closed today. However, "some walking was required" on Downdraft Headwall, Chute and Mouse Trap.

The snow loss was probably most dramatic on Mouse Trap which was down to a ribbon on skier's left starting from the Poma. Bunny Buster was half-width also - and there were brown spots on virtually every open run.

Some might suggest that Killington made a tactical error in trying to open Caper on Ramshead, instead of deepening the cover elsewhere - but without some snowmaking weather very soon, Killington may have to reopen the dreaded stairway!

I was a bit worried that 500 PSIA people were going to be there today for their "Pro-Jam" and that might be a problem given the limited terrain. It turned out to be a non-issue. Most PSIA members seem to enjoy talking about skiing more than actually skiing, so most were just standing in their groups on the side of the trails talking about skiing!

Oh - I forgot to mention: The skiing was quite lovely spring conditions, but I don't advise going out on your best pair of skis!
