2007 Trip Report #: 58

Resort: Killington

Conditions: Corn and bumps.

Weather: Sun and clouds. Some wind. Temps in the 50's.

Trip Report: Back again. Third time is a charm. Pulled in a little after 10:30 and met up with Andy Zee very quickly. Also met most of the folks from K-Zone...at last. Finn, Mrs. G, Ski Dork, Dr No, Bubba, Rogman, G-Smashed, Tyrolean Skier, Mr. G, Rusty K, Powday, and many more folks.

Rogman, Roark, Andy Zee, Vi, Rusty and I headed up for some great turns. Rusty dropped into Skyehawk...for some grass and rocks while we  at the top. What a guy...funny as hell. We decided to ski down Skyelark to meet up with him. We all rendezvoused and then hit lower Skyelark, which required some walking or edging down in the grass. Good bumps. Bottom part was nice.

Next run was down Superstar....we saw the Meatheads again...awesome skiers. The bumps and corn was amazing. The crowding not so much. Oh well.

Before lunch we hit Bittersweet and found some deep bumps. Very large bumps at that...

After skiing, we headed over for the festivities and the Polish Kielbasa Cookoff between Andy Zee and Cuervo! What an entertaining couple of hours and great food! And those Polish guys can make a great brew! The Warka was great, AZ!

Great to meet up with snowmonster and Lil'Monster.

After lunch, we hit the Superstar and then hiked to the top to spread the ashes of a good friend of Cuervo. Most of us originally were going to just cut over to Double Dipper, but we figured a few extra minutes would give us a great view and show our respect for a guy that we heard was really cool. Mister Moose, G-Smashed, Roark, snowmonster, AZ, Cuervo, and I headed up Launch Pad and then up to South Ridge, where we took a break, before pressing on to the top. We viewed the damage at the Summit Building...whoa...massive damage. The inside also looked sketchy...one section of the floor had caved in! If I get a chance, I should upload my pics of it.

We went to the summit and paid our respects. The hike was a bit tricky in spots...and Catwalk was mostly grass.

After that, we headed down and Mister Moose, AZ, snowmonster, Roark, and I hit Great Northern to Cascade and then over to Double Dipper. The upper part was smooth corn. No tracks...amazing. We hooted and hollared. And I was a bit silly. Photo from AZ:

We paused at the top of Double Dipper. It was about 3:50. This was it. We were going to close the mountain...not in my plans, but we were going to do it and in fashion. The bumps were amazing. Great cover. That trail is much more difficult when the bumps are as big as they were....it just ended too soon.

We skied down to the Canyon Quad and then hiked out. As we headed out, the witching hour came and we could hear cheers from the Superstar Quad. That was it. Final chair.
As folks cheered for that, from around the corner of KBL we came...like cowboys riding in at sunset. We had big grins on our faces and mud on our boots. Well worth the hike....though it was more than the 20-30 minute hike up  the detour was nice.....

We got to the bottom and hung out with the other KZoners. Madskier6 made an entry and we chatted. Good scene. I heard folks stayed there until 8pm, but I left at 5pm. Great time and great folks!
