Newbe here! Help me decide which for our spring fling. My college freshman daughter and I are putting together a trip the first week of April. The budget is tight. I have lodging covered at either location with frequent hotel rewards-Comfort Inn. We need to drive from Michigan. Big K is about 11 hours-Tremblant is 12. We have skied Tremblant but never been out east.
Lift tickets will be a major expense. Tremblant is running about $45 US per day. Does Kilington discount late in the season? I see tickets on ebay-are these a viaable option? We will ski 4 or 5 days.

How would the skiing compare at the two? We ski mostly blues and groomed blacks.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks

Killington has more natural snow and more challenge. Both would have plenty of blues and groomed blacks, but Killington probably has more, because it is bigger. Killington has more variation and is a bigger mountain. But your interests are probably perfect for Tremblant's terrain.

Do you care about the non-ski life at either place? (I figure you aren't interested in bars because you are going with your daughter, so I'm thinking more about places for dinner or other activities.) Personally it's not something I consider much, but if you do care, Tremblant wins, IMO. It has a very cool walking base village like nothing else I've seen, with many restaurants and even a movie theater. At Killington you have to drive around or rely on the shuttle bus.

Tough call.

Killington IMO is a better mountain to ski. Larger area, more terrain and by far more challenging. You will find a larger variety of blue/black groomed runs at Killington. Off the mountain there is plenty to keep you occupied but you will have to drive. Not sure where your hotel is, but if it is off the access road you will have a 15+ minute drive each day.

Tremblant is second to none off the mountain. What they lack in terrain they make up for in amenities. It is nice to park the car for a week and be able to walk to the lifts, restaurants, shops etc. You might get more bang for your buck at Tremblant. I’m not sure you are going to find $45 lift tickets to Killington, probably closer to $60.

I don’t think you can go wrong with either place. Hope this helps.

Hey Walleyeman, I am a Michigan resident and skier and just got back last week from our first Vermont ski trip. We did 5 nights in Killington with my college kids and really enjoyed it. The snow was great, temps were very cold but we dressed for that. We ski all the Michigan places so it was nice to get to larger terrain. The lift tickets at Killington are expensive but the two gondolas really added runs to our experience. It was too cold on some days to ride the lifts much. You will find enough runs on the different mountains to keep you happy. The place is quite large. The drive thru Canada and New York was very easy to do, 11 hours with stops is about right. It was about 625 miles. Good luck and enjoy spring skiing.
