So update number 3....
The good news... No cartilage torn! So no need to operate! The bad news is some how I had a small break in my patella (I think that is what he said). So the bone is healing. So come October I will be ready for Sunday River! Woo hoo!
Not a doctor but that's probably good news. I had a small hair line fracture in my patella several years ago. Went to my doc, had an x-ray - diagnosis was nothing really wrong. Tried skiing a few weeks later and it simply buckled. An Orthopedic surgeon looked at the film and immediately saw the fracture. FWIW, I work with physicians and showed the film to one of the folks I work with, he couldn't see the fracture either though he thought one spot was maybe suspicious. Thus, my view is that if they're not orthopedics they generally aren't good at diagnosing knee injuries, and the docs I work with would readily acknowledge that. I did have an MRI, no other damage. Basic therapy was just to take it easy and don't put any twisting forces that torque the knee. After 6-8 weeks I was pretty much good to go. No residual knee problems. A torn meniscus can cause lots of nagging issues down the road. The fracture should heal completely. Good luck.
