So update number 3....

The good news... No cartilage torn! So no need to operate! The bad news is some how I had a small break in my patella (I think that is what he said). So the bone is healing. So come October I will be ready for Sunday River! Woo hoo!

Not a doctor but that's probably good news. I had a small hair line fracture in my patella several years ago. Went to my doc, had an x-ray - diagnosis was nothing really wrong. Tried skiing a few weeks later and it simply buckled. An Orthopedic surgeon looked at the film and immediately saw the fracture. FWIW, I work with physicians and showed the film to one of the folks I work with, he couldn't see the fracture either though he thought one spot was maybe suspicious. Thus, my view is that if they're not orthopedics they generally aren't good at diagnosing knee injuries, and the docs I work with would readily acknowledge that. I did have an MRI, no other damage. Basic therapy was just to take it easy and don't put any twisting forces that torque the knee. After 6-8 weeks I was pretty much good to go. No residual knee problems. A torn meniscus can cause lots of nagging issues down the road. The fracture should heal completely. Good luck.

crap, that's my symptom too.. time to see the doc.

so i finally went to see the doc today.. knee was hurting a lot the past two weeks..

tells me ligaments are all good. xray and physical exam don't show anything out of place or unusual movement. said pain is likely due to cartilage damage under the kneecap. nothing to do right now. if it gets worse he'll do an MRI and some surgery to remove any flappy pieces.

Interpretation: you're not 18 anymore, so stop playing like an 18 year old ;)

Seriously though, hope things get better without any cutting involved!

In April, after playing basketball on a Friday (and after doing other work-out stuff all week long)...my right knee got all swollen and sore to walk on.

X-rays, etc...no damage. The Arthro Dr was not much help...offered to give me a cortisone shot. I balked.

Physical Therapy...also not much help.

Massage Therapy BINGO! My sypmtoms were similar to Inter Tibial Band (ITB...maybe it's not "Inter").

Anyway...aside fromt he massage therapy...I was advised to use a Rolling Pin on my quad. Roll the quad as hard as I can stand it for 30 seconds. Bingo! Resolved! So, then I was advised to try "The Stick"...similar to a rolling pin...smaller diameter.

Works great. Check out the web site www.thestick.com
