Bourbon is a type of whisky, if it's just labeled whisky I probably wouldn't touch it. Scotch, Irish, Canadian, Bourbon, Tenessee, ...

And Bourbon is about 3-5x better than Irish Whiskey. 1.5x better than Scotch whiskey.

I've got the entire variety in my liquor cabinet, as like I said, my FIL likes the Bourbon, my wife when she feels like it goes for the Tennessee(Jack Daniels), my Dad like the Canadian(Crown Royal), my Sister in law Irish(Jameson's) and me when I feel like it Scotch (Johnny Walker Black or Chivas Regal).

Yup, name your whiskey, I've likely got atleast 1 type of that variety in my liquor cabinet! :)

My liquor "cabinet" right now consists solely of 12y.o. Jameson, 9y.o. Knob Creek, and 12 y.o. Glenlivet.

I like all whiskeys, but prefer Bourbon. Tennessee whiskey to me is just ruined bourbon.

I haven't bought a bottle of Bourbon in years outside of Jim Bean to cook with. Probably a good thing because in my college years I'd buy a bottle of bourbon every week.

I dig Knob, Woodford as well. I'd typically buy 101 Turkey though to save a few bucks.

One thing I never understood is drinking Bourbon on ice, which according to a former bosses father who is in QA for Beam says is the way Bourbon is made to be drank. No ice in mine please. Just neat in a glass thankyouverymuch

On ice? Really?

Neat in a tumbler, sipped. I'm with you there. I've only had Wild Turkey, Beam, and Knob Creek so far (don't drink that much,) out of those my preference is Wild Turkey Rare Breed.

Indeed

Glass is supposed to be packed with ice for bourbon. Scotch on the other hand, only a few cubes.

Both have specific glassware that are supposed to be used in drinking them too.

The reasoning with the ice is that apparently adding a bit of water and altering the temp some wakens up a lot of the more subtle flavors from the casks. To me it just takes away from the burning sensation, which is the point of drinking bourbon to me.

Scotch I've never been able to get into. Smells like dirty socks to me with an equally nasty flavor. And yes, I've tried them all. In fourteen years of bartending and managing bars, there are very few liquors I have not tried.

Irish, meh, if I have to to ham up my heritage with someone.

Rye is flat out for pussies.

There's a perfect point in a glass of bourbon on the rocks when the ice has melted just enough, and the bourbon has gotten just cool enough, where it's absolutely perfect. Best drink ever. A good bourbon, it's like having a sip of a slow Southern afternoon. And then it waters down a little more, and you want that taste back, so you finish it off and pour another. The first taste is harsh, but mellows real quick, and then you hit heaven again. Of course, all good things must come to an end, so you have to finish that one off and start over again.

Before long, you've punched your brother in law, grilled a possum, and the county sherrif is trying to figure out how you got both boots jammed into the divider in his squad car.

no matter how many times I've tried, I just do not dig any brown liquors on ice at all. Likewise, all white liquors with the exception of fine silver tequilas, need to be served to me on ice or at least heavily chilled.

IMHO this is like choosing between a new Mercedes and a new BMW. Either way you can't go wrong

I have had and do enjoy the Woodford Reserve. My brotherinlaw dated a girl from Kentucky and when he went down there to meet her parents, she took him to the Labrot and Graham distillery. My fatherinlaw now prefers WR, but I still find Maker's smoother.

I also prefer my bourbon over ice in a tumbler. I have also been known to down a few shots of the stuff for a quicker effect. :)
