It was cold on Friday morning! Lots of bulletproof everywhere. Plenty of beautiful sunshine too which saved the day. The East Fall area was the Chitze today in the sun. Trail was nice little corn bumps, woods on either side in very nice shape. Corn snow abundant.

It was cold on Saturday morning! Lots of bulletproof everywhere. No sun. Snowdon was running and woods areas over there were the only place to find anything fun to ski. I'm always amazed at how there is always more natural cover on Snowdon. By 3pm it started to snow. By last chair it was snowing sideways and hard. Still winter in mid-April.

My buddy Karl skied with me yesterday and is there today. Said it snowed about 3". Waiting for report from AZ 4/17 crew.

4/22 anyone?

Snowdon sees less traffic due to slower lifts and many of it's trails are more out of the way. Also natural snow collects in the "bowl" area which includes Northstar, Great Bear, Vagabond and associated glades. It is more sheltered and one of the snowiest areas on the hill. One of my favorite areas of the mountain.

Saturday was pretty miserable. Hope tomorrow is better!

Yep, Snowdon is the ticket for the most natural at K. I like that whole area too. I knew about the increased blown in snow, but didn't think about lesser traffic and that painfully slow lift. Those woods surely have the most natural snow left in them by far.

Saturday was fine once we figured out where to ski. The brutally groomed trails became sugar on top of boilerplate quick, so we kept looking into the woods to see if there was anything skiable. The lower angle Skye Peak glades were either burned out lower down or too crusty further up. We jumped into Somewhere but the decent was littered with frozen ski tracks...we had to stay outside the normally skied lines to find smoother snow. Once we figured out that those places where the snow was smoother skied OK, we went over to Snowdon. The snow in the woods was all like that over there and that's where we stayed. The bump course on Mouse Trap was fun too albeit a bit firm.

We had a blast.

I'm very curious to hear what it was like today.

Most folks didn't care for the conditions on Sunday according to Karl.

He said it was warmer and softer than Saturday. But the trails were a mess again and he stayed in the woods for the most part. Snowdon was closed and is done for the year, so Karl stayed in the East Fall area I skied on Friday.

He said it was good, but like me isn't too fussy.

Hope the K1 is open on Friday.
