Kton claims most open terrain in VT today, why not most open in East?

When you check K's webpage they continuously tout having the most open terrain in Vermont, which is cool. However, why not tout having the most open terrain in the East?

I know some explanations. With Sugarloaf's expansion, Sugarloaf more often than not has the most open terrain in the East. That's certainly the case when most of their terrain is open. When that happens, Killington can only claim to have the most in Vermont. Another explanation is that Sunday River sometimes has more terrain open than Killington. When both are fully open, however, Killington has more open terrain. And when both have similar amounts of terrain open, Killington can often claim to have more skiable acres open and more miles of open terrain.

Take a day like today. Killington has more open terrain than Sugarloaf by any metric (the thaw did a number on every Eastern ski resort). It arguably has more open terrain than Sunday River as well. Although K has 2 less trails open than SR (82 vs 84), K has more skiable acres and more miles of open terrain. So, the question stands....On days like today - which probably happen quite often during the season -why not tout having the most open terrain in the East?

who cares? Do you really think someone made a decision on skiing in VT or ME this morning based upon who has the most open terrain in the East?

Because noone cares that at a given moment in time, there is exactly 350 sq m to the third power avaibale courdoroy compared to another mountain hundreds of miles away.

Try posting in English next time...then maybe people can agree or dis, or even understand your position.
Those that know best will take whatever corduroy K puts out there and enjoy it.
Other resorts just don't have the machinery to recover the way K did late last week.
That was evident SuperBowl Sunday, and those that visited K will confirm that.

I don't think anyone made a decision between ME and VT based upon a snow report posted on the web at 7 AM. Somehow the original poster has a competition going in his mind between Killington and Boyne resorts in Maine.

Just got done reading a report from yesterday:

Difficult conditions all day -- much much ice, Blue, Black, didn't matter.
Even though I tuned my edges the night before, there's was much
surprise skidding all day long.

The headwall at Superstar was built up an additional 20 to 30 feet
high since last visit and was essentially a big block of ice.

Skipped that and got to mid-Superstar by way of Launchpad.
At my skill level, it was difficult the whole way down. There was some lumpy stuff on the
sides, but still mostly ice. It was slow pole-hopping turns almost all
the way down.

Saw ski-patrol taking a dude down Superstar in those conditions - a
whole new respect for their skills and technique.

Was surprised to see the Header on Ramshead looking so beat: scratch-ice-scratch.

Last run of the day was Great Eastern top to bottom, and took a detour to Home Stretch - ouch: skiing on ice, scrub, and twigs until reaching the Closed Rope, and detoured again onto Carpenter's Run (woof the homes along there are the stuff of dreams).

The buttonhook left turn almost at the bottom of Great Eastern was solid block ice; certainly the biggest controlled slide of the day.

Sounds like awesome conditions to be crowing about....

The best trails at K after the big thaw were still the natural snow trails... the ones that were still open. The groomed stuff was hard as a rock. I was mostly disappointed in my last trip to Killington because so little natural conditions were left in tact --- and the natural trails that were left natural and bumpy were fun --- but they had to ruin most everything with the machines.

I'd rather ski Magic on 10 trails or whatever they got right now than Killington with 100.

Tuesday is bringing us sunshine and blue skies to Killington followed by a chance of SNOW in the evening. Speaking of snow, our hardworking snowmakers are working around the clock to cover some of your favorite trails in white including Outer Limits, Wildfire, and Skyelark. Which means…Killington has the most open terrain in New England!

Someone's reading these boards. Some asked who cares? It seems that Kton management cares.
