This is how my PT recommended I train starting now until Nov for ski prep... lower weights until failure. For context, I'm returning from a Feb 2023 tib/fib spiral fracture. Last winter was a throwaway for me because the 23 screws holding that together came out Oct '24. So my right leg was only 5% as strong as my left. Lots of leg workouts leading up to today, but now the focus is preparing for the "burn". I despise the gym but if it gets me back out there, so be it.

You must be chomping at the bit to get out there. Hope you have an injury free and as pain free of a ski season as possible.

I only got into lifting seriously two years ago. I desperately want to still ski at a high level in my senior years. Mortality and aging started whispering in my ears a couple of years ago and IMO, the best thing one can do to beat back father time is to maintain muscle mass through resistance training. Now I rarely go a day without it. It's just part of the daily routine. Up usually around 4:45, drink a quick coffee and at the gym from 5:30-6:30/7.

I rarely do weight training, maybe ten times all year :-(
But as a 70+ geezer I do low level cardio, such as bike, walk, golf in off season. When you ski 60-70 days per winter as I've done in recent years I consider that a cardio/strength combo. Used to jog. Was a serious runner as teen and early 20s.
Whatever works! Stay moving. Resist the sofa.

I’m a bit obsessed with mobility training these days. Just spending 5 minutes in a full squat first thing in the morning has loosened up hips and my ankles and calves feel very different while walking.

Got about 1300 miles on my Peloton since my ski season ended in April, plus about 30 rounds of golf walking and carrying my bag in that time frame too. Down just over 20lbs too (hoping for another 10 by when my ski season starts in around 3 months) doing my best to combat some of the challenges the mid 50's throws at oneself! 🤣🤣
