I drive by it all the time. It does lok like they fixed it up some in the not to distant past. Have not heard anything bad about it.

Cool place is the Pines Inn in Lake Placid.

Thanks for the suggestion on the Pines. Looks like a nice place to take a girlfriend but not quite what I'm looking for.

My goal is to pay less per night for lodging than I do for a daily lift ticket. I kinda like roughing it a bit.

With the ticket deals I'm digging up, I'd have a real hard time matching that goal! Anyways, a great goal to keep the prices low, especially when you don't need much more than a good night's sleep.

Right...Ski hard all day and I'm too tired to do much else anyway. Give me a bunk and a beer and I'm a happy guy.

$28 per night for a bunk at Jackrabbit's....could be my new equivilent of Turn of River Lodge for ADK.

I think bunking is all about the people. The structure looks fine. I'm sure you know that it's all about the people. Drunks, people getting sick, banging around in the room or snoring. If you can sleep through most of that, you're golden.

If it was me, Id make a quick call to the proprietors to have them explain to you how they manage these situations. Since you've done this before, you know all that too!

Yep part of the territory when you stay at hostels. Fortuntely there are private rooms which are fairly inexpensive as well.

I'm willing to make some sacrifices if it allows me to make more trips during a season due to the $$ I save.

Personally...I would NEVER stay in a hostel. Last thing I need is to sleep on a sweat stained mattress where hundreds of other drunks, sick and smelly people have slept. Like you say they are only looking for a good nights sleep so the "hygiene" is out the window.

But...to each his/her own.

Yeah me neither. I would much rather go to a upscale hotel and get bed bugs.

Interestingly enough, I have stayed at hostels that were more hygienic and better kept than some hotels I have had the unfortunate chance of staying at. Never seen a drunk or sick person at a hostel. And if you have been skiing hard all day, chances are you are pretty ripe yourself.

tjf67 said it better than I could say it myself... and you never have to worry about the blankets at a hostel having another dudes spunk on them that wasn't cleaned up because they don't launder the heavy blankets very often... :-o

Hey don't take it the wrong way I wasn't trying to offend anyone..it's just simply what I experienced the one time I attempted to stay at a hostel (and left) in Europe as well as the experiences of others who I've spoken to.

Nobody said Hygiene is out the window here! I'm not a dirty college student =)

The whole reason I made this thread was to get a feel for the place. Some Hostels are dirty and nasty other are very clean and comfortable. Bring a sleeping bag and pillow is my general rule of thumb.

Take Turn of River in Killington for example. I love to stay there and it has always been clean, fairly quiet and very warm and friendly. It's full of die hard soul skiers who love to ski and share drinks around the fire after a good day of rippin'.

I can afford to get a slopeside condo if I want....but that's not where I choose to drop my hard earned cash when my focus is on the slopes and I am just up for a 2-3 weekend.

I had a feeling your experience was coming from Europe =)

Ski lodge/Hostel in NE isn't the same as Euro youth hostels.
