Heading there soon, and was looking for an AZ update on Whiteface conditions. Any other tips -- cool place to watch football, good eats -- are very welcome.

whiteface picked up 16 over the last three days. should be great skiing. Winds are high so there might be some wind holds but on windy days that keeps the trails in good shape as less skiers on on them. Also on a windy day stay to the sides near the trees- much better snow there.
Good eats? I say go to the cottage - good atmosphere

All suggestions to date are accurate

Other good digs are Golden Arrow( nice accommodations , great pool jacuzzi, sauna, steam room) It 's on Mirror lake rigt on Main st near the shops and restaurants---ie no need for the car AND there is a FREE shuttle to Whiteface that runs on the half hr .

Another good restaurant Jimmy's on Main st

Have fun you won't be bored in Placid its a great town

I was there Jan 19th to the 21st. New snow reality check...the 14-16 inches Whiteface is claiming is really about 4-5 inches over 2 days. That said, Saturday AM was very good even with the winds. They are blowing snow like crazy so, I expect more terrain open by mid week. Cold is the word. Dress for it and you'll have a great time

Thanks for all the good advice -- just back from three days, stayed at the Golden Arrow, skied Whiteface Monday-Tuesday.

Fantastic ski town. Sunday at 3, Main Street was absolutely insane. By 6 p.m., it was a ghost town.

Great for us. Will have slopes report soon.

It's the Lake Placid Pub and Brewery; great place. It was mentioned in this thread above.

Moose Island Ale and Ubu are my favorites.

Also check out Lisa G's and The Station for good food and spirits.
