I have finally had it with wearing glasses and skiing and am looking into have it done. I tried contacts years ago and I have a problem with sticking them(or anything) in my eye. Have any of you had it done? And for you central CT people, were did you have it done?

I can't help you for central CT, but my boss had it done up in Montreal 3 or so years back (was much cheaper to do it up there at the time - not sure now with the dollar) but she said it was the best thing she's ever done.
Hopefully it will work out for you!

I had it done a few years ago in Montreal, LasikMD. Had lasik in left and PRK in right (cornea was too thin for lasik) very happy with results. Cost a total of about $1300 for both eyes. Look at it as a weekend getaway.

I went on their web site and they start at $499 per eye which is a great deal. I just went to a consultation and they recommend that I go with the PRK type and quoted me $3,400:-o for both eyes. I :-o I have two other appointments to see what they say.I figured the price would of come down.

Tree skier, how did you do your follow ups? Looked on their web site and with the PRK I would have to go everyday for 4-5 days and then a couple more time throughout the year which would be a lot of trip to Canada for me.

I had it done 7 years ago in Boston. I paid a more than Montreal and even a little more than the cheapeast around Boston but here is one thing to keep in mind. If you go to Canada or even a cheap place its a one shot deal - if they take off a little too much or not enough you will still have decent vision but not 20/20. My doctor explain that the best way is to be a little conservative - make sure you do not take off too much material. After the surgery they can bring you in for a touch up a week later that will tweak you to the best possible.

Thats what they did for me. After the first surgery I was 20/30, after the touch up I was 20/15. amazing results. skiing and riding is so much better without glasses - getting the surgery was one of the best decisions I ever made. Good Luck!

I'm not going to go up to Canada, just doesn't sound practical. I made the appointments at the 3 places that I've heard of. Thanks for the information.

The prk took about 3 weeks for the vision to clear, then in one day it was fabulous. I had to stay an extra day in montreal for the prk eye over the lasik eye. for the follow up visits saw a doctor in Keene that see alot of montreal patients. I would highly recomend montreal.

3 or 4 grand, will buy a lot of eye wear,OTG goggles and anti fog spray.
Has any one, who's had surgery, had any problems with prisms ?
A friend had flying spot lasik done and after 3 years he needed glasses to drive at night because the headlights of oncoming vehicles made it difficult to see the road ahead. Not, a handy side effect.
A few years back, I remember hearing a NPR story about, a non medical, semi permanent procedure that involved using some sort of ring to reshape the retina. It kind of sounded like a rubber band/ contact lens. The fit could be adjusted over time for about the same cost of new eyeglasses. Seemed promising, but alas, I've heard no more on the subject since.
I, will be sticking to my specs for the foreseeable future.
Besides, my kids think, I look weird without them on.

I'm with you, don't trust anyone messing with my eyes. I wear glasses normally and contacts for outdoor acitivities such as hikining and skiing. Wonder what it'll be like down the road, has anybody responding to this thread had their surgery 20+ years ago.

My brother actually had it done about 6-7 years ago and he still has 20/20 vision and still says he is happy he had it done.

The technology has come a long way since he had it done and the risks now seem to be minimal. I have scheduled to have it done the end of January for about half the price of the first place I went to.

I will update this after I haver it done.
