My brother is an air traffic controller. He and his wife have both had Lasik done. They travelled to Canada to do it.

Both had no complications. Acutally, my brother had one. His vision went to 20/15. Because his eyesight had changed a certain percent (albeit a huge improvement) he was decertified from being on the scope. He had to have two more eye exams to show his sight has stabalized.

We all laugh now that he was decertified for having eyesight that was "too good".

They've never complained about their night vision. If I hadn't just bought a house... I'd probably blow my tax return on Lasik for myself.

Lasik

I had Lasik surgery about 3 years ago with out any complications. Two days after the surgery I was on the golf course. I have personal knowledge of one person that had a problem that lasted about 6 months. He was told before the surgery that hes was a difficult case,he very poor vision before and now is fine.
The cost in Ottawa is approx 500 cdn per eye.

I participate in many sports where eye protection is a must, squash, boarding and hockey primarily. Also as a paramedic it is nice to not have rainy or foggy glasses any more.

My ol' lady had it done about 2 years ago, and everything's fine. She still has to use reading glasses, but the Doc told her about that up front. She's never complained about her night vision, and she's done full-moon kayaking a couple of times since the surgery. Her only complaint is that she can see me better.....

Although stats are better than they used to be, I won't do it. My vision is too important to accept the risk. Mine can also be corrected to 20/20 with glasses. When researching it a couple of years ago, I found something (don't remember where but the source seemed reputable) that the effects of the surgery last for only a decade or so. Then you're back for more surgery, or glasses again.

On a funnier note, I recently noticed an ad in the Sunday paper comics for a place offering discount lasik surgery. Strikes me as a place to avoid. Certain things you don't want to shop for a discount on. It's one thing to buy sea monkeys out of the comics, but eye surgery?????
