Late players in Quebec?

Had a plan to hit the Quebec City area first week of April. A conflict arose and the trip got pushed to the second week. That loses me Le Massif, which closes on the 9th. I still have Mont-Sainte-Anne and will likely enjoy some non-ski time in Quebec City.

What else stays open that late? I could come down to VT or ME to hit something there but I’d like to stay in Quebec if possible.

Also, MSA stays open until the 23rd but it’s unclear if they close terrain late season even if conditions are holding up. Anyone know how they usually handle late season?

I've gone to Canada to ski 3 times. Never made it to Mt. Tremlant, always got stuck in Montreal. It wasn't as bad as it sounds.

It's been close to 10 years since I was there regularly, and I think they changed ownership, but I used to love late season skiing there. They would keep things open as much as possible. The tbar in the "natural zone" on the northside was usually closed, but all other lifts would be running as long as they had enough snow.

I always was able to find lifts with short lines servicing great terrain, just had to look around when things got busy. I once got a powder day the day before they closed.

Heading up tomorrow didn't even think about bringing my passport until my wife mentioned it today.

Where in Montreal should we stop for lunch?

Went to a kind of crappy dispensary last year it was like a state run thing. Any good ones or should we smuggle our own in?

The SQDC is not the best. It’s all state run and all the same sterile experience. Out in Alberta the dispensary felt less like a weird pharmacy but you still can’t smell and see any product. Best to talk to the sales person to get what’s good. Avoid pre rolls, it’s all dry trimmy garbage. Fresh flower will be good but I’d ask about what’s new and sticky bc it runs dry. Especially when skiing with it on you. Last I was in Quebec they did not sell vape carts and maybe no disposables vapes too. Alberta and BC had regular 510 thread cartridges.

There are so many great places to eat in Montreal. Au pied du Cochon is one of the best in town and prob does a good lunch. I really like Larry’s in mile end and have def had great brunch there. Schwartz if you wanna do the smoked meat thing. St viatur if you wanna do the bagel thing. Personally I prefer the pastrami in nyc but the bagels in Montreal. Much lighter and more delicious than an nyc bomb

The Canadians let me in even though my passport (card) had expired. I just forgot to check. They casually mentioned it to me that it’s expired.

Coming back, I was fortunate to have my passport book with me as well. Not sure if the US immigration would be equally casual about expired passport

We went to a good dispensary in Banff . I always ask what is their freshest flower. NY was terrible for a while when they first opened shops and farmers were unloading weed that was already a year or more old.

Alos in ski towns we always ask the bud tenders whant they like best for skiing...more on the gummy end of things for that.

The NY rollout was such trash that I refuse to participate in our legal market. I’ve heard it’s gotten better but I’ve been sourcing Maine medical cannabis for the past year and it’s just insanely top shelf. No need for the NY dirt

Why would the state impact quality? Is it the tax structure? The good growers just see more profit staying black market? It certainly can't be the availability of skilled growers, especially in a state of that population that has a lot of poverty outside of the metros. I have to imagine many rural NY folks see growing as a better opportunity to make money than traditional avenues. That's why it's not uncommon to find small towns in rural Maine with multiple dispensaries.

I've been an edibles only guy for years now and live 20 minutes from both the Maine and Mass border. There are pluses and minuses to both. Maine is cheaper and can sell 10mg doses. Mass is more expensive and limits dosage to 5mg (not a big deal and kinda dumb) but there is a far better variety of edibles in Mass, especially Sativa based products which I prefer.

new york was weird about licensing and rules.

there werent enough licensed retail shops, so a grey market flourished.

the legal shops could only get new york grown legal product, and for some reason the first wave was all outdoor. indoor actual top shelf flower is only first making an appearance on the scene.

there was also a huge delay between production start and retail start, and shops were forced to push old shitty crusty outdoor.

they also were weird about who got growers licenses. i think this was a concession to existing agricultural interests. but basically apple farmers in the finger lakes were cannabis farmers overnight, and they didnt have a clue. youd get a bag in ny and it would be uncured and stemmy and dry and a year old. just trash.

so this spawned a massive grey market. in nyc there were (still are, but they cracked down), tons of full on retail shops that are blatantly selling illegally. some of those shops are good shops and source better product than you can get in new york. but most were selling even worse shit. sprayed terps. whacky cartridges and edibles sourced god knows where.

new york fumbled the bag as they say.

re: maine - maine recreational is very good, no complaints. but maine medical is in a league of its own. world class stuff. stuff i never thought id see in the eastern us.

Kusty, this place is off I-91 a few miles from New Haven.

$10 entry fee, I think first visit is still free. Best prices I’ve seen anywhere, no tax. Bought a box of 10 1g vapes for $150, got some tincture from this guy operating near mount snow https://www.instagram.com/ravensdecisionfarms/

Weed sales are directed by the provinces, not federally. And each province is wildly different from the other.

If you want vapes and individually run stores with attention to detail, then you don’t want to get your shit in the province of Quebec. Slip over into the province of Ontario and it’s a whole different world.

Easy to get to comein from Central New York or Western New York, if you’re coming from New York City or downstate, you’re gonna need to hook a little bit of a left on your way up to tremblant.

How long ago was this? With the current climate between the 2, I don't think I'd rely on this currently in either direction at the border.

I really need to get off my ass and get a medical card. If for nothing else, the cost savings. My wife is still a flower person, so she'd benefit from the quality you're referencing.
