i am looking for advice regarding skiing in the first week of april.
my brother is coming to boston and he wants to go skiing with his wife and two kids (12 and 14). none of them have skied before (neither have I).
i was wondering where in new england would there be good skiing at that time of year? also, would there be better deals at that time of year booking last minute, or should he start looking now?

Large areas are pretty much the only places that would be definitely open with a decent amount of terrain. So, I'd say Killington, Sunday River...etc.

part of the problem of late season skiing, particularly april, is that the beginners areas are usually the first to melt out and first to be closed down. not many first timers ski in april. you'll want to find a mountain with great snow retention and dependable operation in april. are you planning a destination with stay over or a day trip?

Bretton Woods last trail to close is a green trail. They had good conditions until last weekend in April last year. Probably your best bet for beginner terrain that late in the season.

I agree with Terry, We skied it into late April and plenty of snow. Even made snow the last week of April. There was more snow that K, but less challenge. Sounds like what you are looking for..
Some may argue marketing snow, but we saw in on the hill not just at the Base. They just tear down the pipe and keep pushing that snow into the mid section of the trail. Plus BW will give you some non ski options cause this region is really set up for 4 seasons.

BW always makes it into May. Rumours its some deal with Condo owners. I'll be there late season. I would have to say as far as lessons you may have to call. Usually limited late season. Private lessons seem to be availible if you ask.

Barring some meteorological fluke, I'll jump on the Bretton Woods Bandwagon.

Family oriented, heavy coverage on easier terrain, one of the best views in New England, easy access.

What they said...
