good point and makes a lot of sense. I happened to luck out with a job myself, but upstate NY isnt known for its boooming economy. I do however heart NY, so i didnt want to leave. maybe someday though.

Dont get me wrong...there were a few jobs in the NH area, but man...if those "few" opportunities didn't work out...i'd be stuck factory working to pay the bills. I just couldnt risk it.

I got a job prior to moving to SLC (but that wasnt making me not move), and so far its great, but on the off chance that it doesnt work out...there are PLENTY of other tech jobs available...likely that wouldnt be the case in a place like Lancaster NH, or Summit County for that matter...

Its all about choice...hope you're enjoying the NY mtns...they are fun.....I love the east coast, but I think for a "lifestyle" change..this is the place for me.

I think you have to choose the "ski town" wisely. I did MUCH searching for places to live that were much closer to the mtns. I researched NH, VT, CO, WY, MT, and UT. After much deliberation I settled on SLC, UT. It gave both good employment choices (the economy here is BOOMING), a good/great housing market (rentals included), and is SUPER close to some of the biggest resorts in the USA (im personally 20 minutes from Alta/Snowbird).

I seriously hunted in NH for about a year, but moving close to the whites there were no jobs. I think that with Summit County in particular unless you feel like being in the food service industry, or hospitality at a hotel then you dont have too many choices, and the other choices dont provide wages high enough to sustain living in that area. Devner was a thought for a brief moment but the skiing is to far away and that i70 is a bear...

SLC seems to have a great mix of everything. I think I made the right choice. Only time will tell though.

I think for permanancy SLC would bea viable option. But in Dillon, CO I was 10 minutes from Keystone and 15 from A-Basin, Breck and Copper with the ability to ride 3 - 4 days a week 7 per week if I rode K-stone everynight.

But the kicker was getting back to LI and back into a sailboat crewing week night races on the Great South Bay and LI Sound..and knowing where I belong.

Yep I have a buddy that lives in Dillon proximity to resorts there can be compared to the offerings in SLC area......again I am exactly 20 minutes from Alta/Snowbird..about 30 from Park city and those surrounding areas...maybe 40 min from Brighton.

In the Dillon area, the only things i'd compare to Alta/Snowbird are A-Basin and MAYBE...MAYBE Copper....Breks a "posh" resort for people wanting to flaunt their money terrain there is seriously lacking. I like Keystone, but wasn't overly impressed ($5 cat rides are cool though). I LOVE the Dillon area, just dont feel like being a bartender or waiter the rest of my life....SLC = jobs galore..

Again its all about choice and what your living expectations are I guess...

This thread has got me dreaming of building an A frame somewhere in Northern NE. Itd be either the NE kingdom, Wilmington NY, or Carrabasset Valley.

Not so sure about the other places, but there's already plenty of A-frames in CV. :)

Yeah you did. The spring skiing season they had this season pretty much sealed the deal on where Id want to end up. Close to family, great skiing, and the girls a Mainah at heart.
