Date(s) Skied: January 11, 2009
Resort or Ski Area: Loon Mountain
Conditions: POW, PP for the most part
Trip Report: Normally Sunday is reserved for Cannon because Loon can be a zoo, but, there seemed to be an exodus from Lincoln, NH yesterday afternoon and evening so I figured it will be safe to hit Loon late morning..... I also haven't skied there since Xmas morning!
Parked at the Pemigewasset Base Lodge at South Peak which I highly advise to anyone visiting Loon on the weekend, parking lot was at best quarter full when I got there at 10:30 Hit Cruiser Trail four times, and it was fun with 6 inches of fresh dry powder. This on top of the MM that they have been pumping out for the better part of the week.
Next was East Basin, Big Dipper was great! Small bumps and great snow, freshies could be had into early afternoon hit it six times in a row. Angel Street was great until around 2 when the trail was getting scraped at the top but Lower Angel Street and Lower Basin held up well all day. Triple Trouble beware of thin spots on skiers right. Other than that it was a lot of fun, did it twice.
Then moved over to North Peak, Upper/Lower Walkign Boss rocked! The snow was getting pushed around a bit but it was so light you could just punch right through! Few icy spots between the bumps that were forming but nothing big. Lower WB was lean back on the tails and glide time! Lower Flume had great snow too!
For tree skiing Mike's Way and Scaler has pretty good coverage! Waiting to hear how Black Mountain was, and I didn't do the trails on NP.
Tomorrow should have some great conditions!
