Date(s) Skied: 9 AM - 1:30 PM, Wednesday February 28th 2007
Resort or Ski Area: Loon Mtn
Conditions: 90% PP, some FRGR and loose granular. Some icy patches Blue skies, 30-35 degrees at the base all day. No wind. Perfect weather.
This was a great day to go skiing, just not at Loon, it was NH vacation week and the rugrats were out in force. I was pretty surprised how many were there, but hey, it's school break. I rode the Kanca quad up with a local went over to Camp III and rode up to take Upper Walking Boss, Lwr Walking Boss and Sunset to get back down. The conditions were soft and very skiable.
Getting back down to the Kanca quad, some dingus on a snowboard thinks it's funny to cover the last 4-5 folks in line with a snow wave, and then laughs with his friends about it. That was incident #1, I get bumped by a couple of kids on several runs and there was plenty of room for them to get around this old man on either side. Those were incidents #'s 2 - whatever. I park at camp III to grab some lunch, go out to get my ski's the kid who's snowboard is next to my skis gets his board, subsequently pulling my skis out of the rack and spilling them on the ground and taking off without looking back.
I don't what it is about Loon, but I just don't like the way it ski's or the crowd that hangs out there. I am not trying to disrespect anyone who likes it there, that's cool, it's just not a place I'll go again.
It's a shame, the conditions were great until about early afternoon, it got skied off and there were definitely icy patches as well as visable boiler plate in others.
Sorry to piss and moan, but this was the first day I went skiing in the past 4 times that it was above 20 below, and I was really looking forward to a mellow fun time, as this would probably be my last trip of the year (work and home life went nutzo in february and march doesn't look promising) I got the antithesis.
I took a few pics and they're over in the gallery section.
