Loon Mountain
Conditions were Frozen Granular in the Morning up top/slush at the Base.. 50F at 9.30am 70F at 2pm
My family and I started late. We wanted to let it soften up a bit. 29F at 7 am so we took it slow did not make any turns until 9.30ish after buying our passes for next Season.
Seven Brothers Chair and the East Basin Chair were running to our Suprise as Well as the Gondola and the North Peak quad. Angel St and Upper flume opened late and were allowed to soften up.
We Started our day by taking the Gondola up and skiing flying Fox to Cross Cut to lower Basin Street. We were happy to see the snow firm and fun to turn in. We tried Upper Bear Claw to Blue Ox which IMO is the best Spring skiing trail Loon has. The trees shade the right side of the trail and it holds up well. The corn snow was just amazing.
When We got back to the top of thge Gondola a couple of the regulars caught up with us and we headed down to the North Perk to do Walking boss and Flume. Walking Boss was in Great shape a ton of snow. Upper Flume had alot of snow on it Lower Flume was still solid at 11.00am
We grapped a quick lunch at Camp3 around 11.30 and another Buddy joined us. We headed over to Angel Street that a had a late opening also. The bumps were to much for me and I bailed onto Basin Street that was fine.
We hit Lower Bear Claw and a family favorite Brookway to finish the day. The running water at the stream kind of showed us the Seasons are changing.
We said good by to everyone and closed this seasons chapter at Loon. They had enough snow to stay open another week I thought. We got in the car and Headed toward Sunday River for day two of the Weekend.
