A few years I went up there with some friends after dark on a full-moon night, just after they had opened (late October ish). Hiking up, skiing/riding/tele down under a full moon... awesome!
Here in Boulder, CO, my company does an annual "First Snow in Boulder" pool, and also a tongue-in-cheek "First Exaggerrated Snow Report" contest.

I think Geoff went there just after they opened last year. I have the ski area on my favorites and check it each day from Oct on. What a positve thought. Skiing ya skiing

Man oh man that does make me sick. Da West has the best of everything, I'm sick with envy. All you hardcore youngsters relocate out there while you have the chance before you get married, have kids, career and all that domestic crap that ties you down like a roofers ladder.

BTW I love my family, but you can love them just as much out West in ski country.

I think I would love my family even more if I were out West...

Yeah. It wasn't very good. One advanced beginner wrap-around trail. Firm eastern conditions. Better'n not skiing but I'm not sure I'd bother with it again.

Never been skiing out West. I'm sure it's awesome, but in my totally biased and limited experience, I think New England is the best place to live. I don't know that I'd be comfortable anywhere else.

Just thought i would let you all know i just moved out here to steamboat co from montpelier a month ago to go to school. Its awesome out here and i will let you know how loveland and A-Basin are once they open. Keep your east coast pride though...as awesome as it is out here NOTHING compares to Vermont. I miss all the ponds and greenery!

I think Loveland is trying for Oct. 21 and A-Basin by "mid-October," whatever that means.

I know from experience that Arapahoe Basin and Loveland are wicked cold in January-February especially with the high elevations, much more so than say Keystone or Steamboat.

I got frostbite on a small portion of exposed skin on my ear at Loveland in January 1987. :x

A-basin hits it's stride in March-April as things warm up and the steeps fill in with deeper snowcover.
I spent many days at A-basin over Memorial day weekends and into June, it's my favorite place in Colorado.
