Date(s) Skied: Wednesday Night 2/2/11

Resort or Ski Area: Lyndon Outing Club, VT

Conditions: Powder, 8-12" new and untouched, snowy in the 20s

Trip Report:

Opted out of Burke this morning as we only had a couple inches and I figured it wasn't worth trying to drive down there on what I heard was an unplowed 122 at the time for just a little more snow than what I skied yesterday. Snow really picked up later in the afternoon and LOC is open 6-9, so I figured tonight would be a great night to check it out.

Got there around 5:30 and was the 4th one there (the other 3 being employees), hung around the rustic lodge until about 5:50 and headed over to the T-bar. When they fired it up, there was me, a ski patroller with a sled, and another guy. I asked the ski patroller if he wanted to go first, but he told me to go before him and make a trail for him. First run up the T-bar was fun... made my own little figure 11 going all the way up, then the snowboarder behind me packed down in between my 11 so the patroller had a much better packed trail. At the top, I found that I would be the first to descend the ~200 foot wide, 400 foot vertical UNTOUCHED pitch. At least the 5 or 6 runs after that, I never had to even cross anyones tracks. Seemed most of the people there wanted to go into the little groomed area down skiers right, so I had the left pretty much all to myself. Finally started to get busy just after 7 and things started getting tracked out, but what a fantastic hour that was.

Other than that, I took one attempt at the ropetow from HELL by the lodge... made it halfway up before it got too steep for me to hang on to a rope that was spinning at about 15 MPH. I think that damn thing is faster than the Burke Poma.

Anyways, skied for a couple hours and then headed out. Definitely a fun time, should make it back if I'm bored on a Wednesday night and especially if theres a foot of snow waiting for me. I'll be back at Burke tomorrow. No Cannon for me this weekend as I'm heading back to MA to go to the Bruins game on Saturday and watch the Super Bowl. Definitely going snowmobiling while I'm home instead of going to Wachusett, so no report from there although I hear the base depths are out of this world right now. I'll have to see it for myself over break in a few weeks.

One more resort we've never had a report on (in my short memory here). Great stuff. It's funny how the unloved have such secrets. It would be hard for me to justify the trip to ski there, even if I coordinated it with another run. I suppose ski burke all day and LOC all night...

Sweet report!
I've only grabbed onto that rope tow once and that was enough. That thing can just about yank you out of your boots :lol:

Definitely the best way to do it, if you stay in Lyndonville or St. J. on a Burke/Jay trip, they're open 6-9 on Wed, Fri, and Sat nights. Definitely worth a look. They have quite a few trails for day skiing but only the main wide one is open at night.

Yeah... when I first grabbed it it sucked enough, but I finally got going. Then I got to the steep part... the hell with that lol. A few kids were lapping it the whole time I was there... I think you can crank 20-30 second laps seeing how fast it is and how short it is.

great report!! i skied there a few years back after a massive dump it was awsome they had two big jumps to the right of the t-bar that would just launch you into outer space. LOC is a good choice for some night skiing esp if your going to school right down the road. As i remember u can see the slopes from campus no need to even call the snow line to see if they are open just look out side
thanks for the report

I've been here once or twice in my days at LSC.

Your report brings back a lot of memories. Thanks
