Its only going to get worse, I'd say go for it. A little bit of sleet shouldn't mess things up much, since it won't be freezing up afterward.

Due to mechanical issues stemming from events on Saturday with the Black Lift we will be suspending operations of the Black Lift today. We are expecting to be operating the Black Lift on Monday. We will be offering the Beginner Handle Tow for free today for anyone wanting to utilize it. We are sorry for for the closure and will be working around the clock to repair the issues. Stay tuned to the website for updates.

What happened? Nothing was posted online until 9am, when we were still driving through MA.

Apparently, the grip on one of the chairs failed and slid backward into another chair.

There are a couple of first-person reports on the NELSAP forum at snowjournal.com.

Note: Magic is a huge powderkeg on that board so be prepared to pick the meat out of a shell of trash talk.

IMO a credible thread that quickly degenerated into a ridiculous discussion (It makes this group look pristine!) There is one person on that thread that either deserves heavy moderation or the golden ski boot (with proper inertia.) He seems set on slandering and demeaning any topic, purely to get a rise out of people. Much of his information was not credible; he seemed more interested in inciting a riot than learning the facts. Everyone else seemed to be reasonable and mature in the discussion, but too much time was wasted putting down the flung garbage.

I didn't see people trashing all the other resorts that have had lift issues, but I can't say I audited snow journal. As a moderator of other groups, I occasionally run into people like this. They just want to be the antagonist. You either have to moderate this guy or ban him, otherwise it will ruin the group. That's why bars have bouncers ;)

At this point (at the risk of telling people what to do), Matt should just stay out of the discussion and let it die.

Yep, Magic is taking unfair heat over there.. That's why I brought out the :flame:
The mods at sj are MIA alot and the board lacks modern controls too.

ITA. Depending on who you believe, there may or may not be disgruntled former Magic employees posting on that board under several aliases. I believe in freedom of speech, but see no problem in drawing the line at unfounded or just flat-out incorrect (even libelous) allegations on a private board. Everybody has their own moderation style, I guess, but I'd be much more liberal with application of the banhammer if that was my group.

It's a shame, really, because it's an interesting hill to talk about and that board hosts a whole bunch of people with a real appreciation and understanding of skiing history. I don't know what the folks pissing on Magic over there are trying to prove, really; they aren't going to change anybody's mind about anything (reminds one of that adage about teaching a pig to sing, really.) But then again, I guess it wouldn't be the internet if everybody had a sense of proportion and practicality.

Looks like they got the lift back up and running this morning...

Good morning skiers and riders, this is Matt with your Monday morning snow report.

Today we will be skiing and riding on 37 trails serviced by the Black Lift and the Beginner Handle Tow. Conditions will be wet packed and wet snow, temps in the 40's and cloudy skies.

Despite the warm weather we are looking forward to a day of soft snow and great cruising.
