It is rediculous, without getting political I will keep it brief. 1st, I hate MA, but love Cape Cod, I think it should leave the Commonwealth, with that said, I am afraid to buy shit anymore. Was going to lease a new car, $32k, sales tax $2k, then we have the lovely excise tax a few months after you take posessio of it, probably over $1k, total bullshit I won't even own it. The friggin liquor store is so expensive, they suck tens of thousands a year out of my paycheck, etc... I am afraid to enter another icome bracket for fear that I will have to give it al back. I will say my property taxes are cheap. DHS, sorry to hear that, total bs if you ask me.

Sorry, the liquor store doesn't suck tens of thousands, the government does.

Obviously, you've never lived in New Jersey, the most corrupt state in the Union. :smash:

Boy your not kidding. I could go into a major rant but I'll shut up. Needless to say I am planning my escape. Love the northeast but don't know how long it will be livable. The intermountain west is looking better everyday.

A few recent studies have shown states in the Northeast with the highest rates of taxation have also experienced the highest rates of people moving out. When will they get it?

I had the federal government come after me this year...

I got a letter that said 'you owe us $38,400 (or so) in taxes from '08 due to income you didn't report.'

I had gotten a 1099 for some work I did as a Fencing referee. I made $890.00 and that's what the 1099 said. Somehow the IRS interpreted that as $89,000.

I, of course, called them on it, sent them a copy of the 1099 and my return, and they dropped it, but it was kind of scary to open an official letter and see 'please pay an order of magnitude greater than what is currently in your checking account'.

Ditto. The Feds came after us for 06 AND 07 Medical expenses! Granted we had a ton of them. <sarcasm>Had a nice sit down three hour audit with them.</sarcasm> Thank god my wife keeps meticulous records. We actually under calculated some of the medical for 07 and are getting another $200 bucks back from them. I'm sure that was not what they had in mind when they flagged us! Parasites!!

I don't mind paying taxes if the $ is used for the better...

You know, if we try to pay the documentation fee, processing fee and the service charge electronically, there's going to be an "electronic pay charge."

I'm thinking this document will be available for $20...and will end up costing an additional $189 in fees and services. But I think we already know what the answer is. Wait...what was the question again?

It's kind of like flying on any airline but Southwest these days. By the time your done paying all the extra fees, it costs you way more than the initial fee

I see your familiar with the NJDMV. Electronic pay fee already in place. I better be quiet as Conn might imitate NJ. I see their catching up with the beach fees. If NJ could get a chip into your body they would tax your thoughts as well.

I get that to run this country/state we need to pay taxes, but still at times it makes me nuts. Why do they constantly feel the need to reach into my pocket for more...as a single with no kids, they get plenty from me. I have been audited 4 times in the last 5 years. Worst one was them seeking 40K for some options I sold...I didn't even make that on the options. The one at the beginning of this year ended with them owing me!! Hate that damn envelope that shows up with the big celophane window. Got another one last month saying there is a form and a fine I owe them for 08...which I don't since I have no emps but myself. It's such a PITA to constantly be reacting to their idiocy. I feel stalked.

To add grief to my view of taxes is that I pay a portion of my parents taxes on their home in NJ...I can't deduct this since I'm not the owner. NJ is the winner of the highest property taxes in the nation and the county where the house is comes in 3rd most exp. in the state! Some days I just want to scream.
