Left the house at 4:45...clear ski, felt like winter. Roads were snowy and the lanscape looked wind blown and wintery. Got to the lot at 5:30 and awoke one of the crew who had slept in the lot and we shared some tea and fig newtons for breakfast while we waited for the middlebury contingent to arrive. A sliver of a moon hung on the horizon and as the sky showed signs of lightening, the third rolled in. We sprang into action gearing up for a cold windy skin. Temp in the lot was 9 and it was howling. We headed up lower chin clip to switchback to Gondolier and the snow quialty was appearent. The wind had really moved some snow around above 3000 feet. Gondolier was completely scoured off to grass on the top 3rd, and we were hoping that everything had blown around the corner...then the sun came out...

The excitement grew as we got our first peek down my favorite trail on the hill...

We skinned up towards the gondi house until the ribbon on skier's left got real narrow and punchy, about to where switchback turns off. The skin ended up not really being cold, we didn't need to get warm, so we skipped the ritualistic burning at the warming hut and proceeded to blast, 3 wide, top to bottom. Sun popped out as we cruised accross the flat after the first pitch, really a special run. Perfect snow for the pitch, GSS would have been proud. Very few turns out of the fall line until the hard left near the bottom. The last pitch above the switchback intersection had evidence of yesterdays tracks and we skiied that a bit more cautiously, and the bottom was felt on the waterbars and tops of the rollers, but in the pocket was a nice, wind-firmed 15-20. Second run, top of chin clip to switch back to gondolier with 2 tracks on it, last lap was back up for a skiied, but not played Chin Clip, shredding ribbons of untracked, and hopping from pillow to pillow....out lower switchback to lower gondi for some casual pow cruising and nooding down to the lot, like sex with the lights on.
Fantastic day!
Upper chin clip as we deskinned for the last time...

Enjoy, we did. Doesn't get any better...just good in different ways. At the end of the year, Chin Clip this morning will hold up as one of the best runs of the season. Snow, Scene, Crew.
