BMM! Those pics are fantastic! They do a good job of showing off what the Jane has to offer. OMG... Your descriptions of the dudes in the Club Car is hilarious, particularly the comment about my man Unruh hitting the bar at 10am! That's not far from the truth, but gotta love that big lug. He promises to be in better ski shape and ski more than 3 runs a day next year. I would bet money against that. ;)

Believe it or not, both my buds Chris Unruh and Blair Gavan are fathers now.

Good for them!

I got the biggest kick out of Unruh last year. The dude only skied 2 hours a day, but he freakin ripped! Well, except when his pole broke, or whatever happened this year. Wait... was it this year, or last when he hit the tree??? Regardless, he's great. I have some, uh, interesting video from the house last year. I forget what he was giving a dissertation on, but it was pretty damn funny.

The wife didn't have an adverse reaction when I asked. Looks like my first trip out West will be to ski bumps... and I'm psyched about that!

I am up in the air on lodging. I will check back in soon regarding availability.

Okay, looks like I better write a brief dissertation on preparation for high-altitude skiing for all you first-timers. I have an advantage, having lived at 10,200 feet, to understand the effects of altitude. A primer is on the way soon!

Altitude Preparation!

The first time I went to Abasin I was a bit concerned about altitude adjustment so I did all the right things, including but not exclusive to, drinking lots of water and deep breathing exercises to make sure that I was breathing while I was skiing(you don't realize how often you FORGET to breath!

DON'T FORGET TO BREATH!!!

As you probably know, I'm extremely active on EpicSki and try hard to respect the AZ community without linking to Epic, but there is a Wiki that is full of great information on preparation for Altitude.

http://www.epicski.com/wiki/altitude-adaptation-and-acute-mountain-sickness

My husband's experience was awful at altitude.
He had severe headaches, upset stomach and dizziness that left him weak.
While going to the bus stop at Copper, I had to carry his skis while he carried my poles because he couldn't do it. :(
After a day of rest, and some herbal supplements he got from a guy that resembled a hippie and said,....."DOOOOD I got sumthin for you that will totally stop you from weazzin!"
DH got his wind back and skied for three consecutive days with no issues.

*My Husband has a lung disease that has left him with 68% lung capacity so he had some major adjusting to do.

Sooooo, there is a nut shell of some of what I know about altitude adjustment.

I take Acetazolamide or brand name "Diamox" - which has been fantastic and I've gotten into elevation with NO PROBLEMS at all. Only side effects I had were .. had to pee some super-neon-yellow onto Jane's precious backwoods - like every run for the first 2 hours of the day. And then you may get a little lightheadedness when you first take it. The solution to that though is to take half a pill the day before (or 2-days before) so your body begins to adjust to the drug.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acetazolamide

* Any doctor will prescribe this to you by the way - no big deal.

In addition, I take the early flight out and spend the day in Denver. I eat pasta, drink water and only water, but not too much water - that's bad. I head to the mountains late at night, wake up and ski - no worries.

I try to get in shape too but no matter what I do, the Jane is just relentless to all.

.

Ginko Biloba

I take this too, forgot to mention. It is supposed to be just as good as Diamox, for the acclimatization process.

Terry takes stuff that is from mushrooms that increases blood flow .
Its called Breath from New Chapter.

When he talked to his pulmonologist about altitude and his issues, he said that the only thing that is guaranteed to help with altitude sickness is viagra. Seriously.

Funny tho, the hospital that specializes in TB and pulmonary issues is in Denver and is best suited for that research because of the altitude.
