This should be a great fight, maybe even up there with the Gotti/Ward bouts. Gotta love Mickey Ward!!!!

My issue with MMA is how it's promoted. It's basically 'real' WWF.

I like a touch of class with my barbaric sports!

You think boxing has class? You have got to be kidding me. I can’t even count how many riots I have seen between corners at boxing matches and it seems the fighter REALLY hate one another. MMA may promote there fights a little cheesy, but its just an act and the fighters actually respect one another. You watch an MMA event and I guarantee you will see two guys beat the crap out of one another and once the fight is done they are shaking hands, hugging one another and congratulating the victor. When one guy gets hurt or knocked out the other show legitimate concern for the others well being and checks in to make sure they are ok……...once they wake up anyway. That’s called sportsmanship and has long been missing from the ranks professional boxing.

Another thing, you pay $50 for a boxing pay per view and get 2 or 3 crappy undercards and then the main event which is usually one sided and very boring. With an MMA pay per view you get 6 or 7 good fights that are very competitive and exciting to wa

Nah---boxing is old school baby

Do really see a Ali coming out of MMA???

Ali wouldn't stand a chance against most of the top MMA fighters. To succeed in MMA you have to be proficient in multiple techniques- stand up, wrestling, grappling, etc. Not to mention you need the cardio of a marathon runner. In my opinion, the top MMA fighters are some of the most talented athletes in the World. I had a slight interest in boxing until I discovered MMA, and now I find it boring beyond belief.

This is a view that I don't understand. Why does it always have to be one or the other? They are similar, but different, and both are enjoyable to watch.

Was speaking of integrity----- not kicking ass. Ali is known all over the world for being a class act. I honestly can’t name 1 MMA dude.

Another thing people don’t realize is that MMA is much safer than boxing. On the surface MMA appears much more brutal because of the blood, the tiny gloves the fighters wear, and all the different types of strikes and submissions allowed. But it’s those thicker ‘safer’ gloves used in boxing that prolong fights and cause boxers to receive repeated blows to the head round after round that lead to brain damage and other illnesses. MMA fights are over much quicker and the fighters suffer less internal damage because far fewer blows are needed to finish someone by knock out or TKO.

That doesn't mean they are not class acts. George Saint Pierre (UFC welter weight champ) is one of the classiest athletes I have ever seen. So are most of the other top UFC fighters.

edit: early Ali was a cocky jerk, older Ali was the class act that people remember. Didn't Ali frequently talk trash leading up to fights? Its was always playful, but still trash talk.

Intergity, are you kidding me? Mr. Evil already summed it up well, but many MMA fighters are some of the classiest athletes around, and show sportmanship like you rarely see in professional sports. Regarding worldwide name recogition, the sport is currently experiencing rapid growth and increasing popularity worldwide. Not sure of this, but I think it may be the fastest growing spectator sport in the World right now. I think you will find in the years to come that many MMA fighters do become household names. Chuck Liddell was on the most recent season of Dancing with the Stars and many fighters have appeared in movies recently. I also believe (again, not sure) that the UFC ppv's already surpass boxing or WWE.

Chuck is one of my favorite fighters of all time, but I couldn't bring myself to watch even a minute of that show. My point was simply that the sport is gaining in popularity and the names and faces are starting to become more recognizeable.

Sorry, guess I just view MMA, Tapout, whatever you want to call it as the WWF of this century. I can't get beyond how cheesy the promotion of it is. To each their own, but I find it trashy. I don't watch much of either boxing or MMA. If I had to pick, I prefer boxing, but I really don't care much for watching two people try and maim one another. Perhaps the athletes themselves have more class in MMA, but the atmosphere surrounding the sport at quick glance doesn't seem that way to me.
