I agree with much of what you write, and I'm not sure you meant to equate family oriented with McMountain, but be careful about assuming families want McMountains. Maybe the marketing programs drive alot of families to those places because they don't know any better, but a McMountain is the LAST place anyone wants their family to be IMO. Too many gapers and posers, too many collisions and on snow craziness.
I took my family to MRG/Sugarbush last season. My 2 older sons, 11 and 9, skied at MRG for 2 days in a private lesson. They had their first true powder days and loved their instructor who also enjoyed skiing with them. They were skiing from the top of the single by the first afternoon. It was a great experience for them. My wife and 3 year old enjoyed the beginner terrain at SB which was perfect for them. All in all a great setup, and no McMountains.
Families don't need or really want that.
