Area skied: Middlebury Snow Bowl, Vermont
Date skied: April 17th, 2009 from 1:30 - 2:30pm
Surface conditions: Untouched corn snow
Weather: Sunny and 62F
We decided to check out Middlebury Gap on the way south from Skiing at Sugarbush on friday as my son had not been to this ski area and wanted to see what it looked like. Skiing was not in our original plan, but we where suprised at just how much snow the mountain/trails still had on them. With the exception of the Bailey side which faces south and is 90% grass, the rest of the snowbowl is in great condition.
Driving past the summit of the gap we noticed that the Lang Trail follows the road and looked like an easy way to poach some ripe corn. I played shuttle while my son hiked up from our car to the top of Lang and skied down.
The Lang trail is a snowmaking trail and it has about 2-3' of base still remaining on it and in my opinion will probably still offer skiing into May.
Lang Trail:
Deep Base:
Making some soft snow turns:
The second run was one down Cameron which is black diamond rated and is the trail to the left in this picture:
Warren was able to ski from the top of the chair down to the base lodge on both runs without skiing on grass.
Lower Allen:
