What's the minimum number of ski days that you could justify moving to a new part of the country?

Personally, it would need to be more than what I'm currently skiing, so it's not a high number. I'd say 30 is a nice round number to start, considering my mid week skiing would be pretty limited.

When I lived in CT the best I could manage sometimes was 5 to 8 ski days. I couldn't stand skiing at Powder Ridge or Mt Southington since I worked at both places at one time or another and the amount of hassle to get to Mohawk or Sundown was equal to driving to Southern Vermont.

Since moving to Central NH my ski days nearly tripled. Now I get out between 12 and 20 times plus I extended my season a month. Not bad for a weekend warrior.

I don't have any desire to leave the NH seacoast area even if it meant more ski days. I absolutely love living in this area; especially my town.

As is, I do okay with 25-30 days out a season basing out of this location. I'd rather it be double that and hopefully someday I'll have a work schedule and the financial means to make that happen.

I grew up in Exeter, and will be moving back here shortly, but to answer the question...

To get me to leave Seacoast NH, I told myself I would need to get 100 days a year to make it worth it, both in separation from family and the pay cut, I got that and way more so I think I got my moneys worth.

I like skiing the Catskills and local spots. Sure I would love north VT or Utah but that far from my family. Last year I think I had 30 days or so probably the most I had since I had a season pass to K several years ago. This year skiing will mostly depend on job and pay. I would had 36 days this past season but had some health issues.

Right where I want to be
I would not move to another part of the country just for skiing. It would have to be something else that would be drawing me somewhere else. Where I live now works out pretty damn good.

Well, my wife and I are planning ahead and trying to figure that out. Our ultimate goal is to live the condo lifestyle and locate in northern VT during Winters and around Orleans/Chatham MA during the summers.

Recently, my wife search out job opportunities in ski town areas out West. Vail corporation had job openings that fit our careers (wife and I). So effectively, not so much the number of days but choosing a lifestyle. We already ski often (close to 40 and hopefully 50 this year) and we technically live in the heart of New England ski country (central NH).

I've gotten around 60 days the last few seasons, a bit less last year, max of 72 days a little while back. I'm pretty sure I don't want to ski more days, and would be pretty happy next year with 45-50 days of 4 hours or more. I burned out early last season and barely skied after April 1st.

I would move for better conditions more than anything. It's been pretty tough the last 3 years, compared to the seasons before that, though we did have a few good storm sequences.

That conditions point is huge. I can conceivably rack up big day numbers back East as well, but with 500" and 100 days I know half of them are awesome pow days out here, whereas back East maybe 20+ would be a great year.

That is really the biggest difference. You can find awesome terrain anywhere, but not the snow quality.

FYI, don't sell the farm to work for Vail Resorts.....

There is very nearly a 0% chance that my wife would move, but I would base my decision on quality not quantity. I think the two sort of go hand-in-hand, though. If I had easy access to consistent, quality conditions (including weather), I would probably get more days in.

I'm 50 minutes from Denver, 30 from Loveland, 40 from A-Basin, 50 from Keystone, 1 hr from Copper and Breck

I'm happy where I am at. I could move closer to a specific ski area, but then I would be further away from other resorts, and Denver at well which is important for me in terms of a job.
