My hands tend to get really cold really fast. Over the years, I've found that they seem to stay a lot warmer in mittens rather than gloves. Now I need a new pair. Any recommendations on somethng that's really, really warm?

Love mittens...love gloves too, all depends on the weather...

anyway..I had good luck with DROP. I got an XCR pair...seem great. leather palm, breathe pretty well..tough to go wrong with mittens...your body heat is whats keeping you warm and all mittens keep the fingers together...just look for something WATERPROOF..i'd stay away from down personally. Those are better suited for "base camp" type situations.

I got Burton Toasters last year. They're probably more for snowboarders but I was veeeeeery pleased with them on those cold days. I think they might feel not as comfortable holding the poles but it wasn't a problem for me - it's more important to be warm.

Try them on first if you can so you can decide for yourself.

Yes check out the snowboard stuff, I have turned quite a few skiers on to snowboard mittens and gloves and they seem to find the snowboard stuff more functional. Last yesr I purchased a pair of Burton (can't remember which ones) higher end mittens and they functioned very well.

Another option to consider is wool gloves or glove liners under a pair of expedition-style overmitt shells (or even insulated overmitts).
