MLK, dodging the crowds

I ski mount snow everyweek with my bronze pass. I'm very wary of the crowds at Snow this weekend and want to try something new. Does anyone have any recomendations for an alternative for the MLK weekend black-out? Stratton? Okemo?

I'm looking for something within an hour or 2 of West Dover and minimal mob scenes at the lifts.

In my old age, I've come to appreciate that you can have just as much fun at a smaller area if you approach it with the right attitude and look for the golden nuggets. If the snows hold, you might consider Berkshire East or Magic. Ascutney never gets crowded either. If not, Bolton or Burke are also very good and may have more predictable & better snow anyways.

I think the key will be to find a place that doesn't slip off the tongue of most people.

In all cases, start your day early. The best skiing and smallest lines will come early.

indeed. great suggestions from billski. MLK is a great time to explore places you have never heard of that offer skiing as good if not better than the bigger names for cheaper lifts and less crowds. the places billski mentioned may likely have cheaper crowds on MLK weekend than the big resorts have on a regular weekend.

Look no further than Burke.

Great skiing today. A bit of a hike for you though. Stratton and Oscremo will be crazy, unless the r%^& that is forecast comes true

Pico may not be a bad idea. I heard from the K-Mart lifites that it wasn't crowded at all New Years weekend.

Pico is another good suggestion. Excellent for weekends--never crowded. Just a bit shopworn

I hear that ASC bronze passholders that are blacked-out can ski for $20 this weekend. :)

This rain really screwed up my peak-days contrarian strategy. I had been planning on going to some less attended places such as Bromley, Magic, Middlebury, Pico, Suicide six, etc. to finish out the New England pin collection for my ski hat. Bromley has 1/4 of their trails (along with everyone else) open. None of those areas now have conditions worth going to, I think, so I may just lay low. Alternately, I would often go off-piste, but the rain screwed that up too. mumble mumble...
