Got my copy of "Everything the Instructors Never Told You About Mogul Skiing" by Dan DiPiro, give it an initial read and now I feel even more strongly that I need to have a separate ski to learn bump skiing.

I'm 6'4" (early in the moring :dunce:) weighting around 220lb. My skis for last 3 seasons are Salomon Scream 10 (192 long, either 2002 or 2003 year model). These ski are pretty good for carving steep, not to bumpy trails like Skyward / Mt.Run on Whiteface, or Superstar / Outer Limits in Killington, etc.

Looking for advice on inexpensive, previous years model of skis to tackle bump terrain. What model, length would you recommend. Is there any specific binding position for mogul skiing?

Thanks,
Denis

Don't have a specific model recommendation for you, but for a strictly bump ski, the bindings are usually mounted flat with no riser plates. Plates are intended to keep you from booting out when you're way up on edge, which you obviously don't do in the bumps.

Look for a ski about 66-68mm underfoot and with little sidecut. Bump skis are more or less straight.

You want a flat ski...no plates or integrated bindings.

You want a simple 2 piece binding...light weight counts.

As for binding position on the ski, this varies by user.

gonna keep my eye on this thread. My skis are 110-68-98 with a 12mm riser. maybe i should invest in something else at some point.

Check out the link below, female bumpers that placed in the 06 Olympics. The gear is basically what Dan and Jim have stated.

BTW, check out the vids, cool stuff.

Oh yeah, I never heard good things about moguls skis for other terrain. One of these days I would like to demo some.

The pics shows lengths about forehead to top of the head. Seen similar pics of male bumpers. I think they want them long for aft/ fore stabilty.

Another ski to look at is the Fischer Lunar.
Forgot about Hart. Do they make anything other than bump skis nowadays?
And there's a Japanese company that makes good bump skis. Forgot the name.

As for demoing bump skis, good luck. It's such a specialty piece of equipment that manufacturers don't even put them on the truck anymore.

That's what I figure. But when I start demoing again, I'll be asking... I might get lucky.

as a bump skiier I have found that we can't agree on what is the best type of ski. I personally like slalom skiis or skiis with monster side cuts. Others like em dead straight.
