Where: Mohawk Mountain

When: January 17th, 2014

Conditions: Firm but softening

This was my first not skiing natural snow this season. It took me a few runs to remember how to really dig into the turns. They really blasted their trails with snow early on so they had plenty of base to weather the recent rain/heatwave. They didn't lose any major trails, only short connectors. Today Timbers and Mohawk were the best runs, but Pine had the best snow because it gets sun before the rest of the hill, but it's a snooze to ski. This was my 4th trip to Mohawk this season and I'm loving the new lift even though putting it in meant destroying my favorite "Not a Ski Trail."

You must not have skied very often if this is your first day not skiing natural!

Thanks for the report. Quick question, do places like Mohawk get crowded over holiday weekends? I only skied Mohawk during the week.

Mohawk gets super busy on weekends, holiday and non-holiday. That's why I only ski midweek...well, that and I refuse to pay $50+ to ski Mohawk.

a little scratchy on Friday night. could find some soft "sugar" on the sides of the trails. it was a good night for sharp edges and carving turns. i can't do that well tho. snow was "fast".

one of the kids in our program got hurt, ski patrol did great. kid went to the hospital :-(
