I have a crappy car. So Google says 87 to windy from Albany to Mt snow and up Rte 100. I was thinking their is a way from North of Albany near Burlington VT but I don't see it. I don't want to go on windy road to the Bush. I was also thinking taconic Parkway up. I rather not drive a lot of my time in VT if possible. I guess that bridge that fell apart a few years ago would be helpful. Anyone have a suggestion I really appreciate it.

Burlington would be ridiculously out of your way. If you're worried about you car just stick to the highway and take 87 as far north as you can to 74 and cross over the Chimney Point Bridge. Or are you saying you're worried about your car on 17? That would be the only reason I could see for you going anywhere near Burlington, but that way would probably add 35 to 45 minutes I'd guess.

I would avoid a bridge that fell apart.

It didnt fall apart, it was demo'd because they were worried it wasn't structurally sound (which surprised me because it sure seemed fine). If you ever saw the Harrison Ford movie, "What Lies Beneath", it was the bridge that played a major part in that film. Anyway, a lot of money and 1000 years later (or so it seemed) there's a brand new bridge there. If you're a Colonial American history buff, and sadly few are, that area is a must see.

I'd shoot up 87 past Sartoga Springs, take 149 to US 4 and then up 100.

Then again I don't know where you are coming from exactly. This is the route I'd take from PA.

87 to 149 to 4 to 100 north. Probably 5 hours from where you are located. Your car should be fine with that route as long as it isn't dumping...

I'd agree with this route. Sherburne pass (rt. 4) would be the easiest pass to get over with your car. Brandon, Middlebury or Appalachian Gaps are steeper & more windy. How you get to rt.4 is up to you. You could take the 87, 149 route or take the Taconic then rt. 22 then NY. 7 into VT. 9 then up VT. 7 to Rutland & VT. 4. Driving over to Mt. Snow or even past Bromley & Okemo to rt. 100 is out of your way I'd think.

From their site:
Northbound directions from Albany and points south and west Take I-87 Northway to Exit 20, go northeast to NY #149 to Route 4 to Route 100. Follow Route 100 North to Warren. Turn left onto the Sugarbush Access Road (look for the Sugarbush Resort Area sign).

If I remember basically go to Killington then go north on 100 only road that might be bad is 100 because it is windy narrow but since all the mountains are on it I would expect that it has been taken care of. Let us know how it goes Scotty would like to head up in April for a day over break with the family.

That's another good idea, especially if you're worried about the mountainy bit of 17 in the Bristol area.

EDIT: Just noticing the timestamp issue is FINALLY resolved. Was that actually fixed or did DST "fix" it?

Route 100 is a little windy but not to bad. The only section that is particularly windy is just before you get to Sugarbush going through Granville Gulf. It is scenic going through Granville Gulf if you happen to go through during daylight.

Drove up from Killington last Monday and 100 was mostly in good condition. Took just under an hour from the intersection of 4/100. Granville is really nice and about the only place where the road is beaten up a bit from the winter, but nothing major. Just gotta take it slower through there...

Scotty I don't know how easy it would be for you to get over to I-91. If it's not to far out of the way you could take I-91 up to White River Junction then pick up I-89 up to the exit before Waterbury (forget the name & number). From there you'd take rt. 100-B south which turns into rt.100 south down to Sugarbush. It's all interstate driving 98% of the way & you wouldn't need to go over any pass. I know for me coming from NYC this is the quickest & easiest route if I were going directly to Sugarbush or Stowe for that matter. Just a thought.

Thanks everyone. Rte 17 is bad for bad crappy car. I most likely do this route. I used to take the taconic from the city to Killington when I had my pass years ago. Steamboat 91 I might do on the way home but it about 45 miles from were my car is in Monroe. And trying to drive mostly in NY. Sorry you cant make this trip, hopefully your all healthy for next year's trip.

Believe me I'd love to make the trip. I already have 3 pre-paid tickets to Sugarbush I won't be able to use. I'm hoping a couple of friends of mine can use them so I can recoup my money. I already got rid of 3 VT. passports I won't be able to use. Our house in VT. is about an hour from Sugarbush so I already have a place to stay.

I went to Sugarbush a few weeks back. Usually I get off at the Stowe exit but Google told me to get off before that. Ended up going over some mountain pass and it was s-k-e-t-c-h-y. The Forester handled it well but I was uneasy. Don't think I'll do that again.

Edd get off I-89 the exit before Waterbury (Stowe exit). Take rt. 100B south, turns into rt. 100 south & down to Sugarbush/MRG. Sorry can't remember the exit # or name but it's the one just before the Stowe exit..
