Most Challenging Runs in the East

The other thread got me thinking. Clearly, the runs out west are tougher. But it would be cool to come up with a list of tough runs in the East. What counts? Runs named in the resort's trail map. So, places like Tuck's or unnamed runs within the boundaries of a resort don't count. I'm talking about named trails. Tree runs are OK if they are listed in the trail map of the resort.

As I mentioned in the other thread, I assume (without having skied it) that the Slides at Whiteface make the list and are perhaps the toughest in the East.

Of the places I've skied, the toughest runs have been Anarchy & Julio at Killington. Upper National at Stowe (I thought Liftline wasn't that tough and Upper Goat and Upper Starr were closed, so I don't know how tough they are).

There's def. a thread on this from last spring I remember. Should pull it up if I can find it, there was some interesting discussion on hardest threads in the east.

The Rumor/Lies at Gore are seriously steep and icy and maybe its just me but there always seems to be some kinda ruts or double fall line action going on when they do manage to get open...

Fixed it for you

Just busting stones skiersleft and Nick. ;) It's a fun topic even if it's been discussed ad nauseum on the forums.

There are a lot of trails in the east that require technical skill, but I think defining most challenging varies by the individual. For me, mandatory air is what I find most challenging. These days I pretty much don't huck anything larger than 5 feet unless the landing is wide open and pillow soft. Outside of that, it really depends on the conditions. To me, conditions play a much greater roll in the challenge of a trail than the physical topography.

I am curious how you would rate the difficulty of Tram Cutback against Skateway and Zoomalanche?

Wow, Skateway can be challenging especially early season. You know all kinds of obstacles. Zoomalanche, I just do not want to go there!!!!!:daffy:

Where is tram cutback?

When I was at cannon this year i couldn't even imagine how much snow would be needed to get Tramline open

Wow, I've heard stories and always wondered what that line would be like. First guy skied it like a boss! It looks challenging but oh so fun:beer:

It was open even in this horrible year. One decent snowfall, and a willingness to sacrifice your gear are all it takes. I hit after a 10-12" dump with only thin base under that. I came out free from any rock dings, but I did clip a buried stump that sent me cartwheeling.

Hardest I've skied are Cannon Tramline, upper Goat at Stowe, Liftline at Sugarbush, and Devils Fiddle at Killington. The most overrated for toughness that I've skied are Rumble, the rest of the front four at Stowe (other than the top of Liftline), Kinsman, everything else at Killington, Staircase/Everglade at Jay.
