Date Hiked:
6.21.6

Trails Hiked:
Glen Boulder, Davis Path, Isolation, Rocky Branch.

Total Distance:
By the traditional trail routes 13.2 miles. With our bushwhack, it was about 12 miles.

Difficulty:
Moderate. A great day of hiking!

Conditions:
Perfect day day and a perfect way to celebrate the solstice. Blue skies, a few clouds, 75 degrees with low humidity and a nice gentle breeze. Davis Path and Isolation Trail has some muddy and wet sections. Just 3 blowdowns on Isolation Trail which were easy to pass over or around. The trails and the forest were a bit on the buggy side. The second crossing of the Rocky Branch Brook looked so "interesting" that we immediately decided to bushwhack to the Rocky Branch Trail. The R.B Trail was easy to hike on with it's bog bridges, logs, and rocks perfectly placed where one needs them.

Special Required Equipment:
Trekking poles are very useful for rock hopping/water crossing balance and in general eliminates much of the abuse one's knees usually gets. Plenty of, an extra food and water to provide stamina. Map, compass, and the ability to use them correctly.

Trip Report:
At the 2nd brook crossing on Isolation Trail, we took a 165* bearing and walked the nice & easy hardwood and fern route to the Rocky Branch Trail. We crossed several very small trickles on the way, no wetlands, great solid footing, a lot of recent moose tracks, and one small cliff. We met only 2 hikers all day who hiked the Davis Path from Rte 302. Hikerfast, Tomahawk, ghostdog, and I had most of the hike, the summit, and the spectacular views to ourselves. This was Tomahawk's #48, congratulations! A super way and a super day to celebrate the Solstice. Woo-hoo!!
