b]Date(s) Skied: 1/16/2006 - MLK Day [/b]

Resort or Ski Area: Mount Snow

Conditions: Hard Pack; Some Ice; Windy; Cold

Trip Report:

Monday was MLK day and the first day after a two day Silver/Bronze ALL4ONE blackout period. Mass exodus of SUV's and cars out of New England. Frostbite alert. Windy, but the wind did not close any lifts, but rather it would chew up any exposed part of your body. There was a relatively small crowd at the hill. Skiied main face areas, Carinthia, and North Face. Hill was VERY FAST. Hard pack - on the summit you couldn't dent the snow with a sledge. Many snow guns blowing on various trails. No sign of the 7 inches that had fallen Saturday night and Sunday morning. Midfats were useless. Changed into GS ski with smaller mid and they were rockets on the hard pack. Expected it to be very icy, but it really wasn't that bad, but from the lift you could see huge sections of ice that looked like small glaciers. The large sections of ice were covered with groomer tracks that made it look like gigantic pieces of stucco. The hill really needs a good dump to recover from the torrential downpour from Saturday. All and all conditions were pretty good.

 Interesting conclusion. Seems like an oxymoron to me given the "not so good comments" beside the "good ones"

Good report though.

We expected the worse. It REALLY RAINED HARD and then the temperatures dropped like a can of corn. I meant no ambiguities but Mount Snow did a great job of grooming the hill.

I don't quite see the connection between your report and saying Mt. Snow did a great job of grooming. I'm not trying to pick you apart, and I appreciate your trip report. But your report makes it sound like they didn't necessarily do a great job fixing the rain damage.

Don't worry about picking on me bro. I can take it.
The large pieces of ice were on closed trails or off to the sides. You could see them from the lift. They did a great job of grooming the open trails. I had no negative comments regarding conditions. Hard pack is not necessarily a bad thing.

from a mt snow email recieved today:

"We’ve received 8” of fresh snow this week, and our snowmakers
are out there producing even more. Today we’re skiing and riding
on 68 trails on 27 miles of terrain for you and your family and
friends. The forecast is for temperatures in the 20’s and 30’s
for the rest of the week, with partly sunny skies and maybe a
chance of flurries on Friday. So come to Mount Snow for the best
midweek skiing and riding in southern Vermont!"

wow, 20's and 30's? 8 inches? ha ha...

Good report.

What do you mean by that. You got a problem with my report? WHAT DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND? THERE WAS A HUGE STORM THAT LEFT ICE EVERYWHERE BUT MOUNT SNOW MADE THE TRAIL CONDITIONS FAST AND RIDEABLE.

Now you're over-reacting.

My comment was not negative at all. Read the last two words: GOOD REPORT.

No :argue: here.

I was trying to clarify my previous comments about the oxymoron in a  way.

If you're upset, it may be more appropriate to PM someone rather than handling it like this.

Sorry if you got that impression.
